Desert Design opens studio and showroom in Carson City

Desert Design has been helping people reimagine their personal and professional spaces for almost 30 years and is excited to announce that it has opened a Carson City location at 1440 S. Curry St.

Our History:
Desert Design was established in November of 1997 in Winnemucca by Daniel and Demetria Gordon. Demetria started selling blinds out of the back of her car. She was then asked to bid on a large government contract, so she set her mind to getting her contractor’s license for the State of Nevada. Once she had her contractor’s license it wasn’t long before she set up a little shop on Bridge Street and began selling with Daniel and a few others doing the installation. Since then, the company has grown to a second location in Elko that opened in 1999, and a third in Carson City in 2024.
After 24 years of successful remodeling and consulting all over Northern Nevada, Demetria and Daniel decided to move away from the construction industry and focus on their family ranch. With key employee and manager Kayla Simons interested in purchasing Desert Design, it was clear that the transition could be made with little disruption.
Kayla was raised in Winnemucca and has several generations of family in Humboldt County. Growing up in a mining and ranching family gave Kayla the first-hand opportunity to understand our economy from a consumer perspective along with a working-class experience in our school districts and as a young adult.
After completing a degree in business at Great Basin College in 2007, Kayla’s management career accelerated in the cellular sales industry ending as a Regional Sales Manager with 23 stores in 3 states. In 2014 she started a Photography Business that quickly flourished and remains a successful business in Northern Nevada.
In 2016 Kayla started as a Design Consultant with Desert Design. After learning about the industry, she became Sales and Advertising Manager where she helped support the Winnemucca and Elko teams as well as company growth.
In 2021, Kayla purchased the company with an interest in preserving its values and ethics, while promoting growth and sustainability for many years to come.
We are incredibly excited to be a part of this wonderful community. Carson City has welcomed us with open arms and awarded us with some fabulous talent.
