Frances Humphrey Lecture July 25 at Nevada State Museum features panel discussion on USS Nevada BB-36

Event Date:
July 25, 2024 - 6:30pm

Through the month of July, the Nevada State Museum in Carson City is celebrating the 110th anniversary of the launching of the U.S.S. Nevada BB-36 battleship.

As part of this program, the July 25 Frances Humphrey Lecture Series will feature a panel discussion about the U.S.S. Nevada, a Nevada-class warship endearingly called the "Cheer Up Ship."

Chairing the panel will be Curator Emeritus Bob Nylen, Charles Weller, JD, PhD, and Dave Pierson.

Nylen served as the Nevada State Museum's Curator of History from 1989 to 2020. He was awarded Curator Emeritus status at the Museum in 2023.

Weller is a retired Nevada Senior District Court judge, the historian for the Reno Chapter of the Navy League of the United States, and author of the book, "World War II and Nevada: The Silver State's Contribution to Victory."

Dave Pierson is a longtime Museum volunteer, Coin Press No. 1 operator, and member of the Friends of the Nevada State Museum. He's a U.S. Air Force and Vietnam War veteran who developed an interest in U.S.S. Nevada history.

This lecture is presented in person at 600 N. Carson Street in Carson City from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024. Admission is $10 for adults. Museum members and children 17 and under are free.
