The Carson City School District is pleased to announce a new school-based initiative aimed at enhancing the educational environment and minimizing distractions in classrooms. Starting August 19, 2024, all middle and high school students will be required to place their cellphones and other smart technology devices in locking pouches during school hours.

The celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Chautauqua at Dangberg Historic Park continues by celebrating Wednesday night Chautauquas with the theme: "Follow Us on an Adventure!" All Wednesday evening Chautauquans have an adventurous tale to share with their audience.

Tami Force will speak on Nevada Ghost Towns at Dangberg Home Historic Ranch on Saturday, August 10, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Tami Force has been exploring ghost towns, mining camps, and back roads for 30 years. Force loves learning about some of the more unusual ghost towns and locations in Nevada and beyond. Her goal has been to photograph, document and share the history of these places with others.

Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol division has identified a Lyon County man who died in the July 22 crash on US-50A near Inglewood Drive in Fernley.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties meets every other month on the second Thursday at 9am. Hot breakfast and coffee are part of the public meetings.

My friend Kristen asked me about some small fast-moving bugs plaguing her vegetables and flowers. When she described them, I pulled up a photo of leafhoppers on my phone and showed her. “Yes, that’s them!” she said. They look like miniature cicadas with their wedge-shaped bodies.
