Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 to hold Flag Day ceremony
In July of 1908, the Elks’ Grand Lodge provided for the annual nationwide observance of Flag Day on the 14th of June each year in all Elks Lodges.
June 14th was officially established as Flag Day by a proclamation by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916 but was not a national observance until 1949.
It was President Harry Truman, himself an Elks member, who was inspired through his lodge to sign an act of Congress that dedicated June 14 as National Observance of the symbol of our Nation. The B.P.O.E. has given more than $12 billion in donations since the organization was founded 153 years ago.
Last year alone, even during the pandemic, Elks throughout the U.S. donated close to $300 million in cash, gifts and time to make our communities better places to live.
On June 14th, the Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 will hold their annual Flag Day Ceremony at their lodge, which is open to the public. The flag folding ceremony will begin at 9:00 and be performed by the Emblem Club #507. The Elks will hold their flag ceremony shortly afterwards.
The message relayed during the event will be of the immortal story, written in blood and sweat, of the history of our flag, which symbolizes the divine right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for ALL people in this great country.
Snacks will be provided afterwards.
