Carson City area fundraiser to support the future of low-income families
Have you ever been to a FUN-raiser? The Friends In Service Helping (FISH), annual Celebrity Waiter Fun-raiser is on Saturday, May 20. This year’s event will take place directly on the site of FISH’s Student Housing project at 1455 N. Carson Street. Take part in helping FISH raise awareness and have fun connecting with community members in support of the cause.
With over 400 guests in attendance, keep your eyes open for this year’s ‘celebrity waiters’ who will be competing for tip, table décor, table enthusiasm and being named this year’s ‘Waiter of the Year’ (prize and bragging rights included). A few of this year’s 40+ waiters include Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, and Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon.
If you attended the event last year, then you had the opportunity to break ground on what will be the Student Housing dormitories for FISH’s Revitalization Project. 80% of our pilot program participants were single parents who could have/should have gotten college level education at a younger age but didn’t. So, it is a new underserved clientele that we’ll help move from poverty to prosperity.
This year, you will get an up-close and personal look into the newly constructed Student Housing. The two apartment buildings will house 36 or more families who will receive wrap-around support while attending technical training classes at Western Nevada College and elsewhere.
These certificates will provide them with the skill sets to fill high-demand, and highly paid technical careers in the region such as HVAC, Construction Management, Nursing, Plumbing, Electrical, CDL Drivers, IT, etc. Their hard work and dedication to self-improvement will inspire their children to do the same. This program is intended to continue for generations to come, improving this region’s economy, industrial workforce, and poverty level. Instead of building more “affordable housing”, we will make it so fewer families rely on affordable housing.
Come dressed in your theme of choice and ready to enjoy dinner and dessert by Bella Vita Catering, an open bar including selections from ShoeTree Brewery and Crooked Wine Company, over 70 raffle and silent auction prizes, and select private tours of the Student Housing apartment buildings (hard hat included).
