National Kids to Parks Day celebration at Carson River Park May 15th
Come on down to Carson River Park anytime between 10:00am and 2:00pm on Saturday, May 15th to Join the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department in celebrating the National Park Trust's 11th Annual Kids to Parks Day!
This year's Kids to Parks Day in Carson City will be spent encouraging youth to be stewards of our Parks and Open Space by becoming Carson City Junior Park Rangers!
The Carson City Park Rangers are excited to be launching the new Carson City Junior Park Ranger program! Kids will receive a brand new Jr. Ranger Adventure guide to work through on their own or with the help of a Park Ranger.
The requirements to become a Carson City Junior Park Ranger are simple: complete the adventure guide as best as possible; participate in at least three outdoor activities; join a Carson City Park Ranger on a guided hike; and successfully plan an outdoor adventure.
Once all requirements are met, Junior Park Rangers will be sworn in and given a Junior Park Ranger patch!
Carson City Rangers will be on site from 10:00am-2:00pm at Carson River Park, leading guided hikes, answering questions, helping with adventure guides, and swearing in new Junior Park Rangers. All supplies and educational materials will be provided under the Carson River Park Pavilion. Guided hikes will occur at 10:00am, 11:00am, 12:00pm and 1:00pm, or as needed.
The hikes will be less than a mile long and last about 20 minutes. No pre-registration required.
Muscle Powered will also be at the park celebrating Kids to Parks Day and bike month! They will have bicycles available for check-out to help complete one of the outdoor activity requirements. Adult and child size bikes will be available between 10:00am-2:00pm for free.
While working through the Adventure Guide, grab some shaved ice from Kona Ice. They will be set up near the pavilion during the event to satisfy all your shaved ice desires.
Adventure Guides do not have to be completed on Kids to Parks Day. Stop by, grab some shaved ice, and pick up an adventure guide to be completed on your own. To get sworn in, kids can make appointments to meet with a Park Ranger or join one of the other many hikes led by a Park Ranger throughout the year.
COVID-19 safety measures will be in place. Masks and social distancing will be required while under the pavilion and around the booths.
