Tres Noctambule
Celtic mandolin master MARLA FIBISH,and guitarist, BRUCE VICTOR, join forces with Marin County's Irish fiddle virtuoso SUZUKI CADY. With elegant performances of intimate songs and intricate Celtic tunes, NOCTAMBULE remains a Brewery Arts Center favorite since the beginning of the Celtic Music Series.
TresNOCTAMBULE is MARLA FIBISH, BRUCE VICTOR, and SUZUKI CADY. They play traditional and original music in a variety of forms – traditional Irish tunes and songs, their own tunes written in traditional forms, and compelling musical settings of a broad array of poetry. This unique collaboration brings out qualities in these seasoned musicians that you may not have heard from them before. The music is rendered with lush beauty, sensitivity and humor on an unusual array of strings -- various guitars in varied tunings, mandolin, mandola, 5-string violin, cittern, tenor guitar -- and three blended voices.
Marla and Bruce founded NOCTAMBULE in 2013 with the release of their debut CD together, Travel in the Shadows. Two more CDs followed — The Waking in 2015 and A Sweetish Tune in 2017. Late in 2017 they started working with Suzuki, and TRES NOCTAMBULE was born, expanding their sound with more varied string textures and rich three part harmonies.
The name NOCTAMBULE, French for 'night-owl,’ comes from from a Robert Service poem about a nocturnal ramble through the back alleys of Paris, which they set to music and included on Travel in the Shadows.
A Sweetish Tune, is mostly Irish traditional music, mixed with a few newer compositions in traditional forms, by them and by others. The album has received acclaim from the press, and was featured in the November issue of Irish Music Magazine.
“...One line [from the CD] sums up Bruce and Marla's sound – ‘We blend in melted brilliance…’" - Clive Price, Irish Music Magazine
“A must-have album from a must-follow musical couple.” - Patrick O'Heffernan, Music Junkie Press
In performance, TresNOCTAMBULE will take you on a journey. Their love of traditional music will shine through their instruments, and they will wrap you in their beautifully crafted songs, bringing an unusual array of poetry to life with their music and their voices.
