AmeriCorps openings in Lyon County for financial literacy program

AmeriCorps is a national program that connects individuals and organizations to help communities tackle challenges. Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) is currently recruiting AmeriCorps members to serve part-time by teaching financial literacy at Boys & Girls Clubs in Yerington, Silver Springs and Dayton.
HCC will provide the training needed to learn about and then teach financial literacy skills. Members connect with an expanded professional and social network and gain valuable experiences that often lead to employment after their service ends — all while earning trust and gratitude from the communities they serve.
HCC’s new AmeriCorps’ Literacy in Financial Thinking (LIFT) program places AmeriCorps members at host sites such as Boys & Girls Clubs to perform educational service that strengthens communities in the areas of Literacy in Financial Thinking.
Members will receive training related to their service activities as well as personal and professional development, a living allowance, and an education award for future higher education or to pay off existing higher-education debts.
Specific duties include:
• Completing training modules of the Money Smart curriculum.
• Creating a training schedule for financial literacy courses for a host site population and using pre and post surveys to measure results.
• Participating in 1-on-1 training with the HCC AmeriCorps Program Director.
• Participating in Teams meetings with the entire group of AmeriCorps LIFT members.
• Completing HIPPA, FERPA Civil rights and Non-Discrimination training.
Preferred skills include writing skills; the ability to work as part of a team and individually; and interest in financial literacy. A background or interest in teaching is a plus.
