Valentine Romance with Colin Ross
Celebrate Love with an Evening of Romance at Piper’s Opera House
There are few jazz pianists who can touch a heart as Bill Evans once did. Number 1 on the list would have to be Reno’s own Colin Ross, whose notes, as Evans did, drop like a heavy cream.
Colin is putting together an unforgettable Valentine Gala, “An Evening of Romance for Piper’s Opera House” on Saturday, February 11at 5:30pm. He, along with his trio will step back into the elegant twenties and thirties to the era of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Hoagie Carmichael, Duke Ellington and of course Piper’s own Irving Berlin.
Irving Berlin has a special connection to Virginia City as he married one of our own Irish lassies, Ellin Mackay, granddaughter of John and Louise Mackay He so enjoyed Piper’s. And, Piper’s has one of Berlin’s transposing pianos
This evening promises dancing, endless champagne punch (Lillie Langtry’s Special Recipe which was used for her performance at Piper’s), scrumptious appetizers, chocolate dipped strawberries, a rose or two, and a no-host bar. It is a benefit for the grand dowager, world famous Piper’s Opera House and a town that has been alive and kicking since 1859.
