Nevada became the first state in the nation to give every public school parent the option to choose how and where their child is educated with the signing of SB302 in 2015. The approved legislation created education savings accounts and a percentage of what the state funds for their child’s public education will be deposited into the account for that child.
Funds may be used for education related expenses such things as private school tuition, books, fees to enroll in a virtual school, curriculum materials, specialized services or therapies for a student with a disability, transportation and tutoring at approved participating entities. Nevada’s ESA program is being administered by the State Treasurer’s Office (STO), who was responsible for establishing the regulations, timelines, and program processes.
