Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Oct. 17-23, 2022. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, AAUW Capital (NV) Branch and Sierra Nevada Forums presented the second of four election forums of 2022 on Friday, Oct. 10 located at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

Eric Coffman, Carson City resident, along with Shoe Tree Brewing co. won a bronze medal at the 2022 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition.

Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the nation’s largest commercial beer competition and recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States.

On Oct. 13 at 10 a.m., the Comstock Ladies 109 Organization presented to several school related programs a donation totaling more than $29,000. Donations have been collected over the last year through a raffle of a handmade quilt.

Night Off the Streets center for the homeless will conduct volunteer training

Training sessions for volunteers will be conducted by Night Off the Streets (NOTS) warming center on Oct. 20 and Oct. 22 at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

The Capital City Arts Initiative’s exhibition, "Chinoiseries", presents Gwaylon Leaf’s paintings that use a visual language synthesized from Taoist coded language and symbols.

UPDATE 10:39PM: One suspect is in custody Friday night after surrendering to the Carson City Sheriff's Office MOST team following a standoff in the 1300 block of North Edmonds. Residents can return to their homes. There were no injuries and no shots were fired, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office responded Friday evening to a person who barricaded himself in a residence after displaying an AK-47, according to Sherriff Ken Furlong.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit is hosting its first Regional K9 Unit Challenge & Demo on October 15th at Fuji Park in Carson City from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It brings together K9 teams from numerous agencies across Northern Nevada, and we want all of you to join us!

On Nov. 8, voters in Lyon County will decide on county Question 1 which would change two existing fire stations currently staffed with volunteers into full-time staffed firefighters-paramedics stations in the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District. The measure is designed to improve response times within the district.

The Nevada DMV will close Friday due to an ongoing internet outage affecting most state websites. DMV appointments scheduled for today will be rebooked for next week.
