Get in the Act! Arts in Action announces a FREE "Radio Theater Acting Workshop" for Senior Citizens at Dayton Valley Library on Monday's and Wednesday's for 3-weeks beginning Sept. 12.

Funded by Nevada Arts Council & the National Endowment for the Arts, the workshop focuses on applying acting skills such as characterization, emotion and conflict to an old-time radio script to create a moving performance.

A library presentation will take place on the last day of the workshop for friends, family and community members.

Third Quarter Dinner of 2022 is Coming! The Carson City Council of the United States Navy League will hold our third meeting of the year on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, Carson City. The Social hour will start at 5:30 PM and Dinner will begin at 6:15PM.

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place tonight, Tuesday August 9 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.

Sand Harbor State Park will be closed Tuesday, August 16 for the Lake Tahoe Summit from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the closure, only those attending the summit may enter the park.

More than 6.5 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimers, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. That averages about 1 in 9 people. Depending on genetics and health conditions, a person may have a greater risk of developing some kinds of dementia, or memory loss. While there is no cure, there have been studies that show key lifestyle changes may decrease the risk of having dementia.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties hosts its August meeting on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 9am, with an option to attend either in-person or via Zoom (connection details below). The historic Comstock town of Silver City, Nevada is the venue for another free, family-friendly public event on Saturday, August 13. Kantu Inka will perform music of Peru and the Andes on the town's outdoor stage, the Silver Pavilion, from 6pm-7pm.

Dayton, Nevada - This summer a group of Dayton adults have been learning to play a traditional Andean instrument, the zampoña flute, with Nevada Arts Council Teaching Artists Carlos Ocampo and Julie Lozada Ocampo of Kantu Inka.

They will demonstrate what they’ve learned on their Andean pan flutes, joining Julie and Carlos for a performance at the Dayton Senior Center on Friday, August 12 at 6pm.
