Last week, The Nevada Women's Fund (NWF) awarded FISH their Annual Community Grant of $25,000.

This grant award will be devoted to the FISH Student Housing project and help alleviate the housing costs for women living within. This way, the women can focus on their higher education without the burden of housing costs which will empower their learning potential, uplift families out of generational poverty, and strengthen the community. This is a major recognition for FISH with Nevada Women's Fund's support of this first-of-its-kind Nevada pilot program.

Attention musicians! The Carson City Symphony will begin rehearsals for the first concert of its 40th season on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 6:20 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Carson High School orchestra room located at 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting is expected to take place on Thursday, Aug. 17, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The main item of discussion is regarding the Lompa Ranch and Black Stone ranch. Other items of key discussion are listed after the ranches discussions.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Courtney Warner, who has served as Executive Director of the Carson City Senior Center since 2015. In addition to Meals on Wheels and low-cost lunches at the Senior Center's dining room, programs she supervises include educational lectures, fitness and wellness initiatives, and resources for promoting a healthy, independent lifestyle.

Due to an issue with the new flooring, Carson City's Catmandu has to push the date for re-opening back one more week to Aug. 25.

The Rotary Club of Carson City will hold a lunceon meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 15 in the Brewery Arts Center's Grand Ballroom to discuss plans for the 30th anniversary of the Annual Luau to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada.

BGCWN CEO Brett Zunino will be the guest speaker at the luncheon meeting and the public is invited to attend.

Carson City’s 20th annual Jazz & Beyond Music Festival, presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association, offers 11 days of free entertainment and more than two dozen performances.

Two or more concerts will be held each day in multiple venues around the city, beginning with the festival opener on Friday, Aug. 11, from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, on the corner of W. Robinson and Mountain Streets. It features the Andean music of Kantu Inka followed by the 17-piece big band, the Reno Jazz Orchestra, with special guest entertainer, David Hayes.
