A spring storm will move into the Sierra and western Nevada tonight bringing gusty winds and chances for rain and Sierra snow through Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Gusty winds will create rough boating conditions on area lakes this afternoon as well as turbulence for air travel. Strong southwest crosswinds with gusts to 35-45 mph on area roads, including Highways 50 and Highway 395 and and I-580 and I-80, may result in difficult driving for high profile vehicles.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week, Monday through Sunday, March 23-29: Beginning Monday, and continuing through Wednesday, there will be lane closures on U.S. 50 between Humboldt Lane and Airport Road, and on College Parkway between Emerson Way and Goni Road from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to utility work.

A woman was taken into custody Sunday afternoon on at least one charge of probation violation after she was seen shooting at the 7-Eleven building at College Parkway and Carson Street. The gun turned out to be a BB gun.

The legendary 1860s mail carrier trail known as the Pony Express, which used horses and riders to deliver letters and parcels from Sacramento to east of the Rockies, remains a big part of Nevada's Wild West history because the trail went through the Silver State. A 17-year-old Carson City teen suffered non-life threatening injuries and is recovering at Renown Medical Center in Reno following a pedestrian accident Saturday night at the intersection crosswalk of Highway 50 and Lompa Lane. The accident is under investigation and alcohol may be a factor, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said Sunday.

On Tuesday, March 31, 2015, the Capital City Arts Initiative will present a talk by curator JoAnne Northrup. Her illustrated talk, Bringing the World to Northern Nevada is the next in CCAI’s Nevada Neighbors series. The talk will take place at 7pm at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor St, Carson City.

There will be an informal reception for Ms. Northrup preceding the event; the doors open at 6:15pm. The presentation and reception are free, and the public is cordially invited.
