The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Boardroom of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

On Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, the Carson City Planning Commission will discuss whether or not to approve a Special Use Permit for a new cannabis dispensary near the intersection of Highway 50 E. and Airport Road.

The third annual Holiday with a Hero Golf Tournament will tee off May 18 at the Eagle Valley Golf Course. The 4-person scramble golf tournament raises funds for scholarships for students in need within the community.

Carson High School recently hosted the fifth speech and debate tournament of the season in Carson City. This competition included 15 schools, 186 competitors and 81 judges. Participating students took home multiple awards in the tournament.

An 18-year-old woman was arrested Friday for suspicion of DUI, minor consuming and open container in a vehicle after apparently spinning donuts and getting stuck in a ditch, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team including North Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts, California State Parks, Nevada Division of Forestry and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, will continue burning this week at Lake Tahoe, conditions and weather permitting. UPDATE: 8:58PM: A 14-year old Carson City female pedestrian died at the scene of a vehicle crash Sunday night on North Carson Street, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The girl was struck in the 3100 block of North Carson and East Nye Lane at around 5:40 p.m. At arrival, CCSO deputies began administering life-saving medical attention. However, upon the arrival of fire, paramedic units the teen was declared deceased at the scene.

On January 18, the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners adopted an ordinance which revises the oversight of China Spring Youth Camp from the 9th Judicial District Court to the Douglas County Manager’s Office. This ordinance will be effective February 1, 2024.

On January 23, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Nevada State Police responded to a crash at the location of Eastbound US50 near Highlands Drive (Mile Marker 1) in Lyon County, Nevada.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2000 Ford F-350 was traveling eastbound on US50 approaching Highlands Drive.

Miller Counseling is partnering with Douglas Center for Hope and Healing to offer grief support groups to Carson City and the surrounding rural communities Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m.

The Miller Counseling and Wellness Center is located at 104 W. Telegraph St. in Carson City.

The Center for Hope and Healing has been providing grief support to Douglas County for the last 10 years. The goal of building this partnership is to make the free support groups available and easier to access to more members of the Northern Nevada community.
