All schools in the Carson City School District will remain open today, Monday, August 23. Parents are encouraged to use discretion. If at any time parents feel conditions are unsafe to take or send students to school, they may keep their child home for the day regardless of the District’s decision to hold school.

The Dixie Fire burning near Susanville was 721,298 acres and 37 percent contained on Sunday morning, according to Cal Fire. The fire has destroyed 1,247 structures.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — The Caldor Fire burning southwest of Lake Tahoe is 98,149 acres and remains 0 percent contained as of Sunday morning. The fire remained active again throughout the night, particularly in the northeast section of the fire. Vegetation and timber is igniting very easily and spotting continues to occur ahead of the fire perimeter.

Wildfire smoke throughout Carson City and much of western Nevada will continue to remain locked into the region for the next few days, due to the Caldor Fire in El Dorado County and the Dixie Fire burning near Susanville, according to the National Weather Service.

The Carson City SDA Church Pantry is open today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 405 E. College Parkway. The pantry is across the parking lot from the church in the beige building next to the playground. If you are in need of food, please come by.

MINDEN — As of August 21, 2021 the Douglas County Community and Senior Center is an active Evacuation Center for the evacuees in El Dorado County affected by the Caldor Fire. Due to this, the facility is closed to the public until further notice.

The excitement is tangible, the smiles are contagious, and students are going out of their way to assist others and their teachers. The Senator Pride Committee is giving perks to students when both they and other teachers see acts of respectfulness, responsibility, and safety happening around the campus. It truly is great to be back in school.

A house fire was reported just before 7:45 p.m. on E. Robinson Saturday evening.

According to the homeowner, a fire began in the residence in the dishwasher and has now spread into the rest of the home, with both smoke and flames visible.

First responders are enroute while the house is evacuated.

A crash involving a vehicle versus garage occurred just after 7:15 p.m. Saturday evening in the area of Quinn and Latigo.

Injuries at this time are unknown. The driver has been detained.

Motorists should use alternate route.

The Douglas County Community and Senior Center is currently opening its doors as a precautionary measure at the request of El Dorado County, California to take in evacuees from the Caldor Fire.

Prolonged drought conditions have resulted in drastically reduced reservoir levels at Lahontan State Recreation Area. The reservoir level currently measures 3,974 acre-feet, while the level this time last year was just under 111,000 acre-feet, and about 239,000 acre-feet in 2019.

USDA Forest Service is temporarily closing nine Northern California national forests for public safety concerns during the current high fire danger. The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, and the Tahoe National Forest are included in this order which is in effect from Sunday, August 22 at 11:59 p.m. to September 6 at 11:59 p.m.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying persons involved in a robbery at the Topsy Lane Walmart.

Seven people have been arrested in a two-day sting led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Northern Nevada Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.

This operation jointly planned and conducted by the FBI, Carson City Sheriff’s Office: Special Enforcement Team (SET), and Reno Police Department’s Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) Unit, sought to identify and arrest people seeking to pay minors for sexual acts.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office Investigation Division is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in a grand larceny theft of jewelry at a Carson City store on East William Street.

The Caldor Fire south of Pollock Pines in El Dorado County, Calif., grew to 65,474 acres overnight Wednesday with zero containment as of Thursday morning.

The town of El Dorado, Somerset, Pleasant Valley, Fairplay, Omo Ranch and Riverton are among communities threatened. The community of Grizzly Flats was hit hard by the fire, losing a school, post office and homes.

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place Tuesday, Aug. 24 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.
