Snow will return to Carson City and the valley floors Tuesday with the heaviest expected from mid-morning through the afternoon that will impact road travel in the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Today, Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022 is Election Day in Nevada and throughout the country. Statewide, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

With the National Weather Service forecast calling for two to four feet of snow expected by Wednesday above 7,000 feet and ideal temperatures for snowmaking operations to be in full swing, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe announced Monday its plans to open this Friday, Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 13 for skiers and riders to make their first turns of the season.

Carson City students are recognizing and honoring military men and women this week with Veteran’s Day displays and events. Veterans from all branches of military service, as well as families of students, have been encouraged to attend or participate in events Wednesday and Thursday. Campus visitors should check in at the front office at each school site.

The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team will continue prescribed fire operations this week in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Conditions and weather permitting, California State Parks, Nevada Division of Forestry, North Lake Tahoe, and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts will be burning piles in several locations around Lake Tahoe.

A man was arrested Sunday for multiple felony counts of firearm possession offenses, drug possession and misdemeanor domestic battery among other alleged offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

On Saturday, November 12, 2022, Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City will host a Veterans Day Weekend Fun Shoot from 9:00am to 4:30pm. Target fees will be discounted all day. Everyone is invited to come!

My neighbor Patrick Mobley has an open house once a year to display his model railroad layout. The announcement on Facebook says the display is titled "Great Basin and Sierra." It models the high Nevada desert, Sierra and the California foothill trains. Here are some photos taken Sunday morning.

More good news coming out of Carson City. The Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band won first place in the 2022 Sierra Band Crusade with a score of 78.3, making them the Northern Nevada AA State Champions! The competition was held at the University of Nevada, Reno on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022. The Carson City marching band was also recognized with the award for outstanding music.

The Nevada State Museum presented a free Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, event in collaboration with Western Nevada College and Visit Carson City on Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m.

The event celebrated a traditional Mexican holiday that pays tribute to the lives of loved ones who have passed on. It was filled with delightful crafts, traditional music, folk dancing and a food truck with plenty of options to choose from.

A 29-year-old Carson City man and a 24-year-old Carson City woman were arrested following an incident involving graffiti that led to the deployment of pepper balls and a taser.

Congratulations to the Carson High School Girls Cross Country team. They won the Nevada 5A State Championship this afternoon in Boulder City, Nev.
