Carson City area weather: Cold temperatures with brief weekend warmup before snow returns
The coldest air of the season will infiltrate into the Carson City region Thursday into Friday with breezy northwest winds. Quieter and warmer conditions will return by the end the week and the start of the weekend before another system rolls in, according to the National Weather Service.
The pattern trends wetter and colder again during the second half of the weekend into next week. Multiple weather systems are possible with plenty of wind, rain and snow, NWS forecasters said.
Meanwhile, lake-effect snow is possible Wednesday night after 8 p.m. downwind of Pyramid Lake, Lake Tahoe and Walker Lake, beginning along the southeast sides of these lakes, turning more south-southwest overnight into Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
There is a 70-90 percent chance along NV-447 towards Nixon-Fernley; a 50-70 percent chance along NV-445 towards I-80, Spanish Springs, Sparks, and Reno; 50-70 percent chance over Stateline, the Carson Valley, Woodfords, and Carson Pass; and 40-60 percent chance over US-95 from Walker Lake into Hawthorne.
Snow totals of a dusting up to 2 inches are possible overnight Wednesday into Thursday. The weather service advises motorists to leave early for your Thursday morning commute if you are in any of these areas. Even just a little snow can create commute headaches.
