CARSON CITY – A conservative Nevada think tank gave passing scores to 22 Republicans in the just-concluded 2011 legislative session, handing out failing scores to four other GOP lawmakers and all 37 Democrats in a report card released today.

Carson City Little League will again host the 9/10, 10/11 and 11/12 age group All Star tournament for District 1 Little League. We will begin with an opening ceremony on Wednesday June 29 at 3:30 p.m. at Governors field. Games will continue to July 13th. The GOP budget bill that garnered nearly every Republican vote in Congress has been much discussed these past few weeks, as has the author of this bill, the party’s economic “genius” Rep. Paul Ryan.

This is a reminder that Pyramid Lake, which is located about 30 miles north of Reno-Sparks, will close on Thursday, June 30 to 2010-2011 fishing for Lahontan cutthroat trout.

That large, desert lake has a three-month trout closure, each year, from July 01 to September 30. On October 1, it will re-open for the 2011-2012 cutthroat trout fishing season.

Oregon fishery managers added three days to the all-depth sport halibut fishery off the central Oregon coast.
Fishing for Pacific halibut will be open Thursday, June 23, through Saturday, June 25, at all depths.

The spring all-depth season for the central coast area – from Cape Falcon (30 miles south of the Columbia River) to Humbug Mountain (south of Port Orford) – opened May 12 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays only.

Robert B. Lincoln, a sportsman from Carson City, has won a $1,000 gift certificate, an incentive for applying ear¬ly for a 2011 Big Game tag.

Lincoln was notified via phone by Don Sefton of Systems Consultants, the sponsor of the gift certificate.

“The winner had the option to choose a gift certificate to Cabela’s, Scheels or Bass Pro and chose Cabela’s,” said Sefton. “It was a very exciting phone call to make, and Mr. Lincoln was thrilled to win the incentive prize.”

Game wardens from the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) will participate in a national effort to reduce instances of boating under the influence. For the effort, dubbed Operation Dry Water, officers will be out in force June 24-26 looking for boat operators with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) exceeds the state limit of .08%.
Operation Dry Water will include increased patrols statewide, including at Lakes Mead and Mohave, South Fork Reservoir and Lake Tahoe.

Kiyah Davis, daughter of Tim Davis and Chris Davis, both of Carson City, caught this fish during an outing with her dad in Elko, Nev. After holding the fish for the photo, the fish was returned to the reservoir. Kiyah just graduated from Seeliger Elementary School and will attend middle school next year.
