CAMPO Public Participation Survey Flyer

Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) is the agency responsible for short- and long-range transportation planning in Carson City, northern Douglas County, and western Lyon County (see map for CAMPO boundaries).

Middle school wrestlers from northern Nevada gathered at Pershing County High School in Lovelock Saturday, March 25, for the 2023 Tah-Nevada Middle School Wrestling Championship Tournament. In total, there were 261 wrestlers representing 17 schools, from White Pine County to Truckee, Calif. Carson Middle School and Eagle Valley Middle School sent 10 and 14 wrestlers respectively, representing Carson City Schools.

In recognition of those who have received life-saving transplants and in honor of both living and deceased donors, Donor Network West lights the iconic Reno Arch blue and green every April during Donate Life Month. The Arch turned blue and green Saturday, April 1, during a special ceremony and will remain blue and green the entire month.

From April 3 through April 20, 2023, Nevada’s law enforcement agencies throughout the state will be Joining Forces and citing distracted drivers. Nevada law clearly states that any use of a handheld electronic device — cell phone, mp3 player, GPS device, etc. — while driving is illegal. Nevada’s ban on handheld devices while driving went into effect January 1, 2012, and law enforcement continues to spot and cite offenders every day.

CARSON CITY — The Public Health Emergency declared during the COVID-19 pandemic came to an end on March 31, 2023, which means current Medicaid enrollees will no longer be automatically renewed for benefits. The Nevada Dental Association is proud to announce it has reached over 100 member dentists volunteering for the Adopt-A-Vet Dental Program. The Adopt-A-Vet Dental Program recruits Nevada dentists and specialists in local communities to provide services to veterans in-need free-of-charge. Since 2010, Adopt-A-Vet Dental Program’s volunteer dentists have provided dental care to more than 1,500 veterans totaling more than eight-million dollars in donated treatment.

Finally, a sunny day! At least somewhat; wine walkers took to the streets Saturday for the April Wine Walk in Carson City. With temperatures in the mid-50s, the occasional cloud won’t ruin their day.

Kara Easton has been hired as Douglas County’s new Emergency Management Director. Easton most recently served the City of Las Vegas as the Emergency Management Specialist, where she has served in the role since 2016.

Sheriff Ken Furlong celebrates the appointment of a new Senior Deputy Coroner at the Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with Organ Donation Month. Ms. Pettie Braninburg was appointed to replace retiring Senior Coroner Ruth Rhines who had filled the position of Coroner at the Sheriff’s Office for over 21 years.

It’s spring, and that means our area bears will soon come out of hibernation. Tahoe Urbanized Bear Expert Toogee Sielsch wants residents to do everything they can to keep the bears out of neighborhoods and to limit their human encounters.

He will share his knowledge about local bear activity with members of the Rotary Club of Carson City and the public at the club’s next meeting on Tuesday, April 4th.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, April 6 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Boardroom of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Carson City's Carson Raceway go karting track is now under new ownership, and has added a new activity to the roster: Axe throwing!

Axe throwing has risen in popularity throughout the country in recent years, in which participants stand inside of a safety zone much like a batting cage and throw axes towards a static target. While there are axe throwing locations in Reno, this is the first of its kind in the capital city.

Bethlehem Lutheran School students Jason Bradshaw, Grace Emery and Max de la Torre traveled to Las Vegas and competed in the Nevada State Spelling Bee at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 25.

All three students represented Carson City well, spelling against the best spellers in the state. They all three finished tied for 12, beating 18 other spellers before misspelling the words emblazoned, hiatus, and exoneration, respectively.
