Carson City is seeking an artist or artist team to design, fabricate and install a free-standing, outdoor, original sculpture at the South Carson Street/South Stewart Street Roundabout.

Carson City recently completed the South Carson Complete Streets Project, the largest corridor revitalization project in the City’s history. One of the focal points of the corridor revitalization is the roundabout at South Carson Street and South Stewart Street.

Saturday, May 13th is the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive sponsored by The National Association of Letter Carriers and The United States Postal Service. Please leave donations of non-perishable food by your mailbox. They will be collected by your letter carrier and delivered to a food bank in your area.

Girls on the Run Sierras is bringing their week-long, character- building summer camp to Carson City! At Camp GOTR, girls will learn about friendship building, confidence and creativity while playing fun, interactive games. This summer camp will be from August 7th-11th. This is an introductory class on how to build, light and maintain a coal forge fire with a hand cranked blower, proper hammering techniques, drawing, pointing, twisting, punching and how to work hot steel over a coal forge. Students will take home the basic knowledge of forging and their own handmade forged decorative article.

When Brynlee Peters, a fifth grader at Edith W. Fritsch Elementary in Carson City, began working on her entry for this year’s Free Fishing Day Poster Contest, she was inspired by a fishing trip to Lake Tahoe she took with her family.

“I remembered the last time we went on a fishing trip and all the things about it that made it fun were about being with family,” she said. “I thought about all the things my family would enjoy, like the fresh air and the memories we would make together.”

On Friday, several school districts in Northern Nevada including Washoe, Carson and Lyon became aware of a threat being circulating threatening a school shooting, with no specific school indicated. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the reports, and Lyon County issued a statement that the threats are not credible.

Veterans taking their lives continues to be a sad and unfortunate trend in the United States. Nevada has also experienced the same alarming suicide rates for veterans.

To help alert more people about the need to take necessary steps to prevent the tragic losses of these lives, Western Nevada College’s Veterans Resource Center is holding a Veterans Suicide Prevention and Awareness March on Saturday, May 6.

Three fifth graders from Fritsch Elementary School in Carson City competed in the National Archery Tournament at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, Utah last weekend, April 28-29, 2023. Out of nearly 3,000 participants from more than 200 schools nationwide, Teddy Hohl shot a 241, Finn Russell shot a 199 and Wyatt Valentine shot a 160, earning them an overall ranking of 83, 186 and 211 respectively.

Rain and thunderstorms with some hail have moved into the greater Carson City, Carson Valley areas and surrounding counties Thursday as a weather system has reached western Nevada and Sierra.
