Carson City's Thursday Nite Cruisers are back for another season of car appreciation, warm weather, and summer vibes.

Each Thursday, join the cruisers throughout Carson City from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for an evening of fun, which includes raffle drawings, a 50/50 at each show, as well as a Best of Show award selected by each hosting business.

Fireworks are returning to South Lake Tahoe on the 4th of July. The popular Lights on the Lake show hosted by the Tahoe Douglas Visitor's Authority will start at 9:45 p.m. The fireworks will be launched off barges on Lake Tahoe near Edgewood Tahoe.

Several Carson City Pop Warner parents and former coaches are calling for the resignation of a cheer coach — and the board president — after the sex offender status of the coach’s husband was revealed, and parents learned the board was well aware but chose not to alert parents.

Oso is a small dog with a big heart and lots of love to give still. He is 10 years old and is blind and deaf, with moderate dental disease. He’s afraid of strangers and other dogs at first, but once he feels safe, he really comes out of his shell. Oso loves it when people sit with him as he eats and loves plushy toys.

He has been in the shelter since late April and loves to play with other dogs his size.

Tonight and next week, elementary schools in the Carson City School District will host Parent Information Nights for “Ready to Rock Kinder,” an information night for parents of all students planning to attend Kindergarten this fall. The parent nights will include information on how to help your child this summer as well as provide some activities, skills and resources to help make practicing for kindergarten fun. Information will be available about summer school as well.

Starting on May 24, 2023, Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City will host its popular Wednesday afternoon Skeet and Sporting Clays leagues.

After 35 years as an integral part of Carson City’s medical community, providing compassionate care and expertise as a trusted advisor, healer, and friend, Dr. Christopher Forman retired in April from the Carson Tahoe Medical Group as an internist and primary care provider.

A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 1900 block of North Carson St. after allegedly stealing “buzzballs” and threatening a shop manager with a knife.

Deputies responded to the area just after 6 p.m. on report of a robbery.

Empire Elementary, Fremont Elementary, Fritsch Elementary and Mark Twain Elementary were four of 300 schools from 36 states across the country to receive a $5,000 grant through the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries.

The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries awarded $1.5 million in library grants this year. Many of the libraries will use the funds to update and diversify their collections.

Mile High Jazz Band Association presents Carson City’s 20th annual Jazz & Beyond Music Festival, with 11 days of free entertainment and more than 30 performances. The beat returns this August in multiple venues around the city, beginning with the festival opener on Friday, August 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, on the corner of W. Robinson and Mountain Streets. It features the Reno Jazz Orchestra. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

UPDATE SUNDAY: The incident happened when the woman parked her vehicle on a grade and the parking brake didn't engage, according to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Micah Horton.

As the vehicle began to roll, the woman attempted to grab the baby from the car seat and in doing so, the vehicle rolled over a small portion of the woman's foot. She was treated on scene and transported to the hospital. The baby was found by CCFD crews in the car seat "still buckled up." The baby suffered no injuries.

A call to dispatch came in just after 9 p.m. Saturday night stating a crash with injury had just occurred near Manzanita Terrace.

The reporting party stating that a woman may have been run over by a vehicle while holding a baby.

Just before 4 p.m. a crash was reported in front of Carson High School. There are no injuries reported, but the vehicle is in the median and traffic may be partially blocked.
