Carson City Sheriff's deputies make arrests for drugs, DUIs and warrants
A 62-year-old man was arrested Friday for a felony fugitive from justice warrant and for possession of a controlled substance, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Elias Farnum was taken into custody at 9:40 a.m. in the 100 block of North Carson Street. The fugitive from justice warrant was for burglary out of El Dorado County, Calif. During a search, he had approximately 2.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine in a pocket. No bail hold awaiting extradition.
In other arrests:
— A 37-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and reckless driving.
According to the booking report, at around 8:45 p.m Carson City Sheriff Furlong called out he had a car pass him at a high rate of speed in the center median. The vehicle was going northbound and Sheriff Furlong kept following. The vehicle continued to Hot Springs where it again passed cars in the center median. The sheriff said that he would stop the vehicle once he had another unit.
A sergeant and and deputy joined the sheriff at North Carson Street and College Parkway where the vehicle was stopped. The sergeant took the driver's side door and the sheriff, the passenger door. A deputy relieved the sheriff at the passenger door, the report states.
The driver was crying and said her boyfriend had fell and hit his head at a local bar. The deputy could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her person as she was crying and talking.
A few minutes later, the woman admitted that she was lying about her boyfriend and just wanted to get home. The woman stepped out of the vehicle and agreed to do standardized field sobriety tests in which she showed impairment on the tests. She provided a preliminary breath test of .259 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. She was taken to jail where she consented to evidentiary breath tests, with results of .160 and .164. Bail: $2,024.
— A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant. Bail: $450 cash.
— A 39-year-old man was arrested early Monday for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and no license plate lights.
According to the booking report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing the vehicle swerve left to right, and then slow down and momentarily speed back up. The vehicle's license plate light was not operable, which made deciphering the license plate difficult. Due to the circumstances, the deputy initiated a traffic stop on Hot Spring Road and Sage Street. The vehicle came to a stop in a parking lot at 119 Hot Springs Road.
The deputy made contact with the driver and noticed the odor of alcohol coming from the driver's person as well as red, watery eyes. He said he drank two beers, according to the report.
The driver agreed to field sobriety tests in which he showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a partial preliminary breath test of .196. He was arrested for suspicion DUI. At jail he agreed to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $1,249.
