Beautiful night for a run 10 p.m. Feb. 28 after yet another snowfall.

UPDATE: Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and the Nevada State Police responded early Thursday evening to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 4900 block of Highway 50 East. First responders on scene report the pedestrian has died.

I took a little drive this morning near Genoa and this is one of the views I couldn't resist. The Carson River with Sierra Nevada just east of Genoa.

Buried beneath an ever-deepening blanket of snow over the Lake Tahoe Basin lie more than 580 miles of official dirt trails that provide recreation, transportation, fitness and fun. For the first time ever, a coalition of Tahoe partners have developed a Tahoe Regional Trails Strategy to take a basin-wide perspective to trail planning and building.

A few years ago, volunteers installed chicken wire over all the windows at the historic Donovan Mill in Silver City. Fast forward to July 2022 when the Daughters of the American Revolution granted $10,000 for Donovan Mill window restoration and replacement. The Comstock Foundation for History and Culture matched this funding with $10,000.

CARSON CITY — Long-time history curator Robert “Bob” Nylen, who retired in 2020 after 36 years with the Nevada State Museum, was named Curator Emeritus on Feb. 2, 2023.

“This is such an honor,” Nylen said. “I couldn’t have even imagined an honor like this being given to me.”

Elsewhere, Douglas County School District Schools are closed Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, Gov. Joe Lombardo announced a 2-hour delayed start for state offices in Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, Mineral County, Storey County, and Washoe County. Aside from essential public safety and corrections personnel, state government offices in these counties will open at 10:00 AM today on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

UPDATE: Western Nevada College officials have changed from a delayed start to remote operations today, Wednesday, for its Carson City and Douglas campuses. However, the Child Development Center on the Carson City campus will operate from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Fallon campus will have a delayed start as originally planned and open at 10 a.m.

My friend Sandie asked me a good question this week, “Is all this moisture good or bad for trees?” If you have read my column for a while, you know I preach repeatedly that trees need watering all year, including the winter. If precipitation doesn’t come as rain or snow, we have to drag out hoses or turn on irrigation systems.

The Nevada Department of Transportation reports that I-580 is currently closed Tuesday afternoon from the Bowers Mansion area to Mt. Rose Highway (SR 431) due to extremely low visibility, blowing snow and multiple crashes.
