Volunteers needed for 'Ride to Read' book drop-off at Carson City elementary school
Join Muscle Powered and Western Nevada's Safe Routes to School in a "Ride for Reading" event to deliver books March 16 to Bordewich Bray Elementary School in Carson City.
This initiative is part of March's Read Across America month. We have over 2,000 donated books that we will be dispersing to Bordewich Bray, Fremont and Empire Elementary schools. We will not be delivering books to Fremont or Empire on March 16, but will deliver books to those schools as part of May Bike Month.
We have invited Gov. Joe Lombardo, who will be in attendance at the beginning of the ride. We will be sending out invitations to other Carson City dignitaries.
Participants will bring their bike and meet at the Governor's Mansion, located at 606 Mountain St at 12:45 PM to get signed in. All participant's must have a working bike and helmets are encouraged.
Please bring a backpack or bike panniers to carry books . We will hand out books to participants at the Governor's Mansion. Once all the books have been handed out, we will bike from the Governor's Mansion to the legislature and then head to Bordewich Bray.
Weather pending, the students will meet us outside and we will hand the books to school staff at that time. We anticipate the event to be wrapped up around 2:00/2:30 PM.
Participants should be dressed appropriately for the weather and bring water and snacks if need be.
