Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of July 10-16, 2023. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is scheduled to begin thinning trees by hand on Monday, July 10, 2023, on the south end of Prey Meadows north of Glenbrook on the East Shore of Lake Tahoe.

The new Nevada Department of Transportation project in Zephyr Cove gets started on Monday. There will be lane reductions and permanent roadside parking restrictions as a new traffic signal is installed to improve safety on US50 near Warrior Way.

Esther Chapter 3, Order of the Eastern Star, is hosting their sixth annual Downtown Revival Car Show today, Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Head over to downtown Carson City between Robinson and Fifth Street to see an array of classic and customized cars and vehicles.

UPDATE 5:30 p.m.: The body has been tentatively identified as one of the missing kayakers. The name of the deceased is being held until next of kin are notified. The body is being transported to Washoe County for a full autopsy. The canyon is reopened to the public and the scene has been cleared.

UPDATE 5:12 p.m.: Sheriff Furlong said one deceased male was retrieved. No ID has been announced at this time.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m.: Sheriff Furlong sent a photo (seen above) of the staging area of the body where responders are working to extract it.

On July 14, the Carson City Moose Lodge 2709 is having the second annual wine train event in Mills Park from 4:30 to 7:00. There will be three train stops for the riders get off and taste some premium wines and craft beers.

Each ticket allows for 10 samplings and only 100 tickets will be sold for the price of $20 per ticket.

Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Andy Hummel, PE, manager of water and wastewater utilities at Carson City Public Works. He will provide an overview of city's water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities, touching on those systems' history, operations, quality control and growth capacity, as well as current and future projects that may be of interest to the general public.

A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested after admitting to embezzling over $54,000 worth of products from his work.

Deputies were dispatched to a home improvement store on Fairview Dr. Thursday afternoon on an embezzlement report.

Friday morning, the final beam on the new FISH commercial and dormitory buildings went into place.

On June 25, 2023, at approximately 12:57 a.m., Nevada State Police responded to a fatal crash at the location of US395A and William Brent Road, in Washoe County, Nev.

UPDATE 7:30PM: A small 20 foot by 20 foot brush fire that started from a burn pile that ignited was quickly extinguished by Carson City firefighters, according to Battalion Chief Micah Horton. There was no reported damage to structures. It is undetermined at this time how the burn pile ignited.

Carson City Fire Department was called at 7 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a brush fire in the area of Sunrise Drive and August Drive, near Arrowhead Drive.

Over the course of just three hours on the morning of July 5, 402 volunteers cleaned up 8,559 pounds of litter left from Fourth of July celebrations at Lake Tahoe.

Cigarette butts, plastic food wrappers, beach toys and even barbecues were plucked from six popular beach sites, as well as nearby parking lots and streets, around the Tahoe Basin.

On Wednesday, July 5 the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was made aware that two people were missing. On July 2, two kayakers, identified as James Martin and Robert (Bobby) White, went to the Brunswick Canyon area in Carson City to kayak the Carson River.

Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol division is investigating a crash where two vehicle passengers died late Tuesday on US-395 near the North McCarran exit in Reno. Impairment is suspected.

Grocery Outlet's July food campaign benefits local agencies

The Grocery Outlet Bargain Market has launched its annual July Independence From Hunger Food Drive to combat hunger. The month-long campaign will collect cash donations and pre-made bags of nonperishable foods in-store at more than 400 U.S. locations to be distributed to local food agencies partners.
