CARSON CITY – Nevada’s gaming win declined 6.1 percent statewide in August over August 2010, but the downturn is not as significant as it might appear, a Gaming Control Board analyst said today.
Nevada’s casinos won $886.9 million in August, nearly $58 million less than the same month last year, said state gaming analyst Michael Lawton.

I was chatting with a couple of friends Monday about the Occupy Wall Street movement in its unfocused protest about banks and the financial sector and other things.

No specific targets, but they know something is wrong here.

One friend, a firm "independent," dismissed the crowds as "a bunch of purple-haired freaks." The other, a determined conservative who has predicted rioting in 18 months in American cities when the economy collapses as he is sure it is about to, similarly waved off the protests because the crowd was largely young and powerless with no agenda.

Participating in the Halloween Candy Buy Back Program for the Troops

We are going to participate in the halloween candy buy back program for the troops this year. Dr. Olson will be buying candy from the kids $1/lb (up to $5) . We will then ship the candy to the troops. Halloween candy represents a warm memory of life “back home” and children that care enough to donate candy in support of our troops. We were wondering if this is something you would be interested in writing an article on? We would really like to get the word out to the community that we will be participating in this event.

The film "Real Steel" now playing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City is an action film starring Hugh Jackman as a down-and-out boxer past his prime as robots took over the boxing world.

In this case it's an attempt by films to muscle into the video game profits. Not that the movie is bad, that is, if the sight of giant robots flaying away at each other doesn't turn you off. It's actually technology not gone amok but just crass.

The note also directed the teller to have other tellers move to one side together and keep their hands visible. The demand note read "Any mistakes and I start shooting"

"The Ides of March," currently showing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City, is a welcome change from the summer fare of bare-chested shoot 'em ups. It's a serious film about American politics with a fine cast headed by Ryan Gosling as Stephen Myers, a sleazy press secretary to George Clooney's Mike Morris, seeking the Democratic nomination for president at a hotly contested Ohio vote.

Clooney is almost just a supporting actor but even in his shorter screen time manages to impress. He also directs, produces and co-writes the script, which is tight and intelligent.
