The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is initiating a public comment period on the proposed Forest-Wide Prescribed Fire Restoration Project. The purpose of this project is to increase the pace and scale of prescribed burning on lands within 6.2 million acres of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada and a small portion of eastern California.

Nevada Department of Public Safety Director George Togliatti has appointed Thomas Lawson as Chief of the Nevada DPS, Parole and Probation Division. The appointment is effective Monday, Nov. 16, 2020.

Carson City Health and Human Services reported Saturday that there are 25 new cases and 18 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 2,269, with 1,922 recoveries and 27 deaths; 320 cases remain active.

On Nov. 11th Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 honored local Veterans by placing a bronze plaque at the base of their flag pole located in the front of their Lodge.

A network of churches, community members and local non-profits have been teaming up for half a decade in Carson City to provide warming shelters and a safe place to sleep for the transient population, and this year will continue despite COVID-19.

Join us once a month to relax through art! Every month we will explore a different technique to use art to help de-stress. For the month of November, create a beautiful glass vase from a recycled glass bottle. The glass bottle will be provided by the library. Pick up your take home kit at the info desk. Sophie Schler of Reno made history on November 12, 2020 when she became one of the nation’s first female Eagle Scouts – a prestigious achievement attained by some of the country’s most noteworthy figures. Miss Sophie Schler is among hundreds of young women who will make up the Inaugural Class of female Eagle Scouts.

Prison officials say 81 percent of the inmates at Warm Springs Correctional Center in Carson City have tested positive for COVID-19, marking the worst outbreak to date in the state’s prison system.

We are reporting 25 new cases and 12 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 2,244, with 1,904 recoveries and 27 deaths; 313 cases remain active.

Members of the Nevada Assembly Republican Caucus unanimously re-elected Dr. Robin Titus to be Caucus Leader for the 81st Legislative Session.

As part of a regular testing protocol, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak underwent routine COVID-19 testing on Friday, November 13 in Carson City. A rapid test provided a positive result. The Governor also received a diagnostic PCR test and those results are pending at this time.

At this time, the Governor is not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. Earlier this week, the Governor expressed feeling fatigue, however he attributed this to his demanding schedule. No other symptoms were experienced.

We just got word that Carson City Parks and Recreation has cancelled Saturday's work day at Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park. Sorry for the late notice. We will post an update when the event is rescheduled.

The Carson City Fire Department will allow open burning November 14, 2020 to December 13, 2020.

The purpose of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulated weeds and yard debris. In order to make this a safe endeavor for those involved, the Carson City Fire Department will require a burn permit.

UPDATE 2:08 p.m.: Sheriff's Office units were told they could clear the scene.

UPDATE: As of 2:02 p.m., first responders are on scene. An evacuation has not been called yet.

Mayors of Dorkville and MOD Comics is a small comic book imprint started by Mike and Christian Robison of Twin Falls, ID and Carson City, NV. On December 1st they are launching a Kickstarter to fund the first print run of their new story “Champion.”

For the week ending November 7, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 7,556, down 602 claims, or 7.4 percent, compared to last week’s total of 8,158 claims, according to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR). Through the week ending November 7, there have been 752,795 initial claims filed in 2020, 731,143 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

A fast moving weather system will move across northern Nevada and the Sierra on Friday into Saturday, bringing gusty winds, prompting wind warnings and advisories for the region. Wildland fire officials have lifted fire restrictions across much of Nevada’s public lands. The Bureau of Land Management, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and Nevada Division of Forestry have rescinded the current 2020 Nevada-wide fire restrictions as of Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020.

The sunset hike hosted by Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space that was set to occur up Prison Hill on Saturday, Nov. 14 has been cancelled.

A 54-year-old Reno woman was arrested in the area of Catalpa Dr. for possession of methamphetamine and possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription after parking in a stranger’s driveway for over 20 minutes.
