While the Western Nevada College baseball team, Salt Lake Community College and College of Southern Idaho have all had their moments this year, WNC baseball coach D.J. Whittemore said College of Southern Nevada is still unquestionably the class of the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
"They know they're going to win," said Whittemore about CSN being the favorite in this week's SWAC postseason tournament. "Everyone else thinks they're going to win."

After watching rain turn to snow through the afternoon, Colin McCulloch couldn't have been happier when opening round play in the Northern 4A Regional Boys Golf Tournament was finally suspended on Monday afternoon at Empire Ranch Golf Course.
"I'm so cold right now," the Carson High sophomore said afterward, glancing out on a course where snow was starting to stick. "It was pretty tough. Starting on 15, I could barely grip the club."

The second publicity stunt WNMTC did was at Meadowood Mall. Great crowd response.

The Chorus of the Comstock lead by director, Jim Crowley, presents songs of tribute for the celebration of 100 years, to the day, that the McKeen motor car arrived in Carson City for the V&T Railway, and, the culmination of a 12 year and nearly one million dollar restoration effort for this unique antique railway transport car. The program included the patriotic theme selections, “This is My Country”, “America the Beautiful”,”Armed Forces Medley” and “ God Bless America”. Barbershop quartets, "Miners" and "Assisted Living" entertained at Wabuska depot and the State Museum building.

Two known Carson City gang members have been arrested after allegedly beating a man who had tried to defend his sister from a rash of annoying phone calls made to her while she was working.

In statements made by the victim and his sister, the problem began on Friday when one of the 18th Street gang members, identified as Jaimi Ponce, 19, kept calling a fast-food restaurant, wanting to speak with the woman. When the victim, who also worked at the restaurant told the man to stop calling, Ponce began yelling at him on the phone, according to the arrest report.

The developer chosen for the Carson Nugget Redevelopment Project will be on hand tonight to answer questions about the project.

Rick Oshinski, CEO of Sacramento-based P3 Development, will appear before the Carson Nugget Development Advisory Committee tonight in the Community Center's Sierra Room.

Carson Now plans to show live video of the meeting, as well as hosting a discussion forum.

Many questions are sure to arise, concerning the details on the project and its scope, as well as the developer and how the company was chosen.

As I've been talking to people about this project, I've collected a number of questions, that I put together below.

Carson High is riding a wave of momentum into the NIAA 4A Northern 4A Region Softball Championship tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday and continue through Saturday at Bishop Manogue High School in Reno.

The NIAA Class 4A Northern Region Boys Golf Championship tournament is scheduled to be played on Monday and Tuesday over the Sierra/Blue and River/White nine-hole sides at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City.

It's all come down to the next three weekends as far as Northern 4A track and field athletes and coaches are concerned. Of course, the state meet is the ultimate goal, but first comes the Northern 4A Regionals, which get under way Saturday with the prelims at Damonte Ranch High in Reno.

The finals will be held at Damonte Ranch next Saturday and the top three finishers ineach event qualify to advance to the NIAA State Championships, also at Damonte Ranch.

In previewing the Northern 4A Regional Track and Field Championships, there might not be a more loaded event when it comes to sheer depth than the boys pole vault.

Seven athletes have cleared 13-9 or better -- including the Carson High tandem of Eric Garcia and Cameron Childers -- and on Saturday a jump of 12-6 was needed to advance past the regional prelims at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno. Garcia and Childers both made their attempts at 12-6 to qualify for the field of nine vaulters in the finals.

A pair of Carson High sophomores reigned as champions in their respective events -- Brian Lester in the 1-meter diving and Tim Grunert in the 100-yard breaststroke -- when the High Desert League Swimming and Diving Championships concluded at the Carson City Aquatic Facility on Saturday.

And for the Western Nevada College baseball team, the race for second place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference went down to the wire. College of Southern Nevada was finally helping out the Wildcats after losing the first three games of its series at Salt Lake Community College.

Luke Maher and Bruce McIntosh hit three-run homers to highlight a seven-run second inning as the Carson High J.V. baseball team ended its season with a 19-11 victory at home against South Tahoe on Friday afternoon.

Kyle Conwell was happy to be reunited with his Western Nevada College baseball "family" this week. The feeling was certainly mutual on Friday afternoon when the Wildcats came together to bang out 29 hits while sweeping Colorado Northwestern Community College 11-2 and 15-1 during a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader at John L. Harvey Field.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE -- The Carson High softball team likes the position it's in heading into the Northern 4A playoffs.

CHS officially clinched a berth in the postseason with a 10-2 win over South Tahoe in the opener of a doubleheader on Friday and went on to win the second game as well, 5-0. Carson knew it would have third-place in the Sierra League locked up with a win in the opener after losses by Bishop Manogue and Fallon on Thursday.

Various road construction projects will be causing delays and closures next week, with some working continuing even longer.

The LED Light had their official ribbon cutting last night for their new retail store on Fairview. The store offers just about everything you can think of that uses LED lights, known for their energy savings and versatility. Some of the more interesting items: light-up dog frisbees, a camping lantern that runs 45 hours on one set of batteries, LED grow lights for plants, and a strip of lights that you can place under your kitchen counters.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE -- After one inning, it looked like the Carson High softball team might have a real battle on its hands Thursday afternoon.

But after watching South Tahoe pitcher Mel Smith strike out the side in the top of the first, Lauren Knorzer supplied a welcome boost with a two-run inside-the-park home run in the second inning that put the Senators on track to an important 11-4 Sierra League victory on the South Tahoe Middle School diamond.
