Members of the Carson High School varsity football and cheer teams climbed to new heights Tuesday morning when they connected as seniors and teammates to reconstruct and restore Carson City’s iconic Block ‘C’ on C-Hill.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has arrested the driver of a vehicle that was on fire on I-80 near Verdi on Sunday. The vehicle, a 2020 Alfa Romeo, is believed to have started the Gold Ranch Fire which has burned over 500 acres, so far.

UPDATE: A fire weather watch issued for Carson City and surrounding counties was upgraded Sunday afternoon to a Red Flag Warning due to projected gusty winds and low humidity, according to the National Weather Service. The warning is from noon to 8 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters with the aid of improved weather conditions were able to bring the containment lines around the Crozier Fire near Placerville, Calif., to 18 percent as of Sunday morning, while northern California's largest fire, the Park Fire, is 37 percent contained.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Sunday afternoon to a crash involving a motor scooter rider in the area of South Carson Street and Sonoma Street. No serious injuries were reported.
