Carson City deputies arrest man for attempting to ‘run over’ tow truck employee; plus, eight other weekend arrests

A 52-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of Arrowhead Dr. after allegedly attempting to run over a tow truck employee, according to deputies.

Daniel Elliott was taken into custody after deputies were dispatched to Arrowhead Drive on a citizen assist call. The caller advised a man, later identified as Elliott, was in a dispute with a towing company employee and was attempting to run him over.

Deputies arrived on scene and met with the employee who said he was arguing with Elliott about a trailer that had ben towed. He told deputies he’d told Elliott he was going to leave and wait for deputies to arrive before finishing the argument.

However, the employee said, Elliott stopped him from closing a gate so he could leave by backing into him with his vehicle. He said he was struck in the left leg and that, if he hadn’t moved out of the way, he feared he would have been ran over.

He said he did not require medical attention, and deputies did not observe any injuries to his person.

Deputies spoke with Elliott who said he had not seen the employee when he attempted to back his vehicle into the storage lot. He said he was backing up so he could tow his trailer out of the tow yard.

Deputies were able to retrieve camera footage of the incident. The footage showed Elliott speaking with the employee in the middle of the entrance to the parking lot. Elliott then could be seen jogging to his vehicle, at which point he got in and quickly reversed toward the employee.

Deputies then saw him get struck on his left leg by the rear bumper of Elliott’s vehicle before moving out of the way.

Deputies took Elliott into custody for felony assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a $30,000 bail.

— A 58-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of N. Lompa and Menlo Drive for battery with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies, after allegedly hitting someone with a golf club during a fight.

According to the report, deputies were dispatched to a fight at a Sherman Lane residence that included one man using a stick, later identified as Ismael Colunga Jr.

When deputies arrived they learned that Colunga had struck someone and left on a bicycle.

They spoke to the home owner who said two people who helped him got into a fight in his front yard, according to the arrest report. He said the victim was working in his yard when Colunga arrived and started to fight him. He said Colunga then got a stick and began hitting the victim with the stick. He said it was potentially a tree branch, but wasn’t sure.

Deputies spoke with the victim who advised he’d been working when Colunga showed up and began to fight him, and the victim was defending himself. He said Colunga then retrieved a golf club and started hitting him with it, striking him in the stomach and arm. He said he was able to grab the club then break it, at which point Colunga fled the scene.

The victim said he had the broken end at his home, and was able to provide it to deputies. Deputies were able to locate the other end of the club in the weeds near where the fight occurred after Colunga had allegedly thrown it at the victim.

Deputies later located Colunga the next day walking on Menlo Dr. towards N. Lompa Lane. Deputies asked about the battery to which Colunga said “there was nothing to talk about” and that there was no battery.

Deputies advised the victim had compelling evidence against him, and Colunga said they had “both already made up.”

Deputies took him into custody, and Colunga said he wouldn’t speak to deputies without an attorney present.

He was booked into the Carson City Jail without incident on a bail of $50,000.

— A 57-year-old man was arrested for domestic battery first offense after punching a woman in the face several times.

According to the arrest report, deputies spoke with a woman who had a bloody lip and learned her boyfriend had taken her cell phone earlier that day, leading to a domestic battery altercation.

She said they were inside her vehicle when he took her phone from her. She said she attempted to get it back, but the man got out of the vehicle and began to walk away.

The woman said she followed the man at which point he turned around and punched her in the face with a closed fist several times.

The woman then pushed the man in the back after he walked away again, still with her phone. He then turned around and punched her in the face again.

Deputies went to a nearby business and obtained cameras that recorded the incident. Deputies confirmed the man had punched the woman in the face several times and determined he was the primary aggressor.

Deputies attempted to locate the man and later booked him into the Carson City Jail for domestic battery first with a bail amount of $3,137.

— A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the area of N. Roop St. and E. Washington St. for DUI first and speeding.

According to the arrest report, at midnight deputies conducted a traffic stop for speeding. The vehicle was going approximately 38 mph in a 25 mph zone, and passed deputies at a high rate of speed.

Upon making contact with the woman, deputies stated she had watery eyes and slurred speech and appeared to have a difficult time locating her insurance information through her phone application. Deputies asked if she’d had anything to drink and she said “it was a while ago.” Later she said she had not had anything to drink in three hours, and had only consumed beer.

She provided a PBT of .146 BAC and showed some signs of impairment during sobriety field testing.

Deputies took her into custody without issue.

Bail: $1,237

— A 32-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested near the area of N. Carson and Winnie for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, and probation violation out of Douglas County.

According to the arrest report, deputies were patrolling in the area when they noticed a vehicle with expired registration and conducted a traffic stop on driver Ralph Eric Richardson.

K-9 Deputy Proton was dispatched and conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle which resulted in a positive response.

During a search of Richardson’s person, deputies located a silver cap containing a white crystalline substance. Deputies sated Richardson was nervous and “actively sweating.”

Inside the vehicle, deputies located a loaded syringe and Richardson was taken into custody. They then found “numerous” hypodermic devices, some of which were loaded or contained a clear or reddish substance. There was a large drink cup containing over 30 hypodermic syringes, three of which were loaded. There were over ten other loose hypodermic syringes, one of which was loaded.

Deputies discovered a green cap containing a white crystalline residue, along with two plastic bags, one of which contained a similar residue and the second containing two large white crystals of methamphetamine weighing 1.3 grams.

Deputies took Richardson into custody, and Douglas County Alternative Sentencing advised they were placing a no bail hold on him for probation violation.

— A 35-year-old Fallon man was arrested just after 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon for DUI second, leaving the scene of an accident with damage, and failure to maintain lane after allegedly crashing his vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Deputies received a call that a reckless driver was driving in the area of King St. and Ormsby Blvd. A patrol deputy advised they had located a vehicle matching the description which also had damage to the front left fender area of the vehicle.

While contacting the driver, deputies noted he had red, watery eyes and slurred speech.

Deputies said the man was emotional and cried as he held his six-year-old daughter, and told deputies he “knew he fucked up” and wanted to say good-bye. Deputies allowed the man a moment to say goodbye before he exited the vehicle.

Deputies stated the man was stumbling and had difficulty maintaining balance, and had a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage emitting form his person. The man denied field sobriety tests as well as a preliminary breath test.

A family member came to retrieve his car as well as his daughter.

Deputies located a “crash scene” at a residence on Kings Canyon Road that matched the damages on his vehicle.

The man was taken into custody without incident.

Bail: $3,361

— A 57-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of E. William St. after a man was behaving suspiciously in his parked car.

According to the report, the deputy observed the vehicle with Armando Fuentes-Aguilar in the driver’s seat parked with the driver’s side window down. They said Fuentes-Aguilar looked at the deputy and “began furtive movements” inside his vehicle as the deputy drove by.

As the deputy drove past the vehicle again, they said Fuentes-Aguilar looked at the deputy again, which they stated is “behavior consistent with criminal activity.”

When the deputy exited the patrol vehicle and approached Fuentes-Aguilar, he got out of his car and began to walk away. The deputy asked “what was up,” and Fuentes-Aguilar said he was working and on break, and had been eating lunch inside his vehicle.

The deputy asked if he could search Fuentes-Aguilar, and he gave permission, according to the report.

Deputies asked Fuentes-Aguilar if there were any weapons or narcotics in his vehicle, and the said there were not. They asked if they could search the vehicle, and Fuentes-Aguilar said yes.

Deputies searched the vehicle and locked a small amount of a white crystalline substance inside the center console which gave a presumptive positive for methamphetamine. They also found similar powder near the drivers side seat which resulted presumptive positive for methamphetamine.

Deputies took him into custody for possession of a controlled substance with a bail of $2,500.

— A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested for violating temporary protective order after being found in a vehicle with the TPO’s registered victim. Both he and the victim claimed they believed they were “okay to hang out” since they were going to have the TPO dissolved on Monday.

He was taken into custody for TPO violation and violation of department of alternative sentencing, with a bail of $6,000, $3,000 cash only.
