The Carson City Chapter of PolkaDot Powerhouse named Canine Rehabilitation Center and Cat Sanctuary as their Community Outreach Program for this quarter, along with other community projects including: a park clean up day, and a fundraiser for Xquisite.

On Saturday, wild horse advocates gathered at the state capitol building in Carson City to protest BLM roundups of mustangs.

This was a coordinated event throughout the US, with advocates gathering at other state capitals as well.

Carson Water Subconservancy District launched its April public service announcement in the Watershed Moments series, “Foster Healthy Soil,” highlighting how healthy soils grow nutritious food, reduce erosion, decrease drought impacts, and improve water quality. In collaboration with the Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority and the Carson City Redevelopment Authority, the Carson City Cultural Commission is accepting applications for the Redevelopment District Arts and Culture Grants for fiscal year 2022-2023.

This round of grant funding is for projects or events that will take place between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023.

A vehicle crash occurred early Saturday morning near Minden, according to Nevada State Police.

The crash occurred just after 4 a.m. on Highway 395 near Airport Road in the northbound lanes.

The crash was listed as fatal.

Traffic resumed just after 8 a.m. in the northbound lanes.

Updates on the fatal will follow as they are released.

The Nevada Day Golf Tournament will take place next Saturday April 30, 2022, with registration beginning at 7:15 a.m. at the Silver Oak Golf Course.

This annual event provides a portion of the funds raised to the high school bands throughout the state to assist with their travel to the Nevada Day Parade in October, while the remainder of the funds supports the Nevada Day Parade.

Just before 2:30 p.m., a traffic accident was reported in front of Fremont Elementary School.

There are no injuries currently reported.

Two vehicles are involved and, as of 2:26 p.m., they are blocking traffic.

Use caution while in the area.

UPDATE 2:35 p.m.: The patient is enroute to the airport to be taken by Care Flight to the hospital.

Just after 2 p.m. on Friday, first responders were dispatched to a location on Mallory Way on the report of a traumatic injury involving an individual trapped in machinery.

According to dispatch, the man's arm had become stuck inside of a conveyer belt.

This Saturday and Sunday, April 23-24, the Highway Patrol and the Office of Traffic Safety is partnering with the Driver’s Edge program to promote safe driving habits and skills to drivers 21 and younger.

A procession of law enforcement officers from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office went through Carson City late Thursday afternoon in honor of a retired law enforcement officer who recently passed away.

The officer was a highly decorated retired Reno, Douglas and Sparks police officer. The name of the officer has not been officially released. The procession ended at Walton's Chapel of the Valley on North Roop Street.

A 26-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of misuse of 911, a gross misdemeanor offense, misdemeanor obstructing and two counts violation of bail conditions, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is seeking information to identify a vehicle burglary suspect. On April 11, at approximately 0038 hours, a vehicle burglary occurred in the 300 block of Bath Street. The suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and items were taken.

Silver City, Nevada - Award winning poet Shaun Griffin will offer a reading of his poetry as part of Silver City's month long celebration of poetry. His reading at the Silver City Schoolhouse at 2pm on Sunday, April 24 will include some of his recent poems describing his experiences at the border of the U.S. and Mexico.
