Carson City Sheriff's Office responds to rash of overnight graffiti vandalism
Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating a number of graffiti vandalism reports Wednesday morning.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said reports of the tagging began coming into dispatch early this morning in north Carson City. Dispatch reports a number of graffiti vandalism tags, some including the words "homeless lives matter" in other areas of town.
Sheriff Furlong urges the public to report any graffiti on their property by calling 775-887-COPS. Crews will be out soon to remove the vandalism, he said.
"We have crews that will abate graffiti but we have to know where it's at in order to do it," said Furlong.
Sheriff Furlong said CCSO has been somewhat successful in catching some graffiti vandals, noting that depending on the damage they do, the perpetrators could be charged with misdemeanor to felony offenses for the vandalism.
"It is a property damage issue. there are laws on the books and other alternatives, such as juveniles losing their driver's licenses," said Furlong. "Graffiti is taken very seriously by us."
