UPDATE: Nevada State Police has identified the driver involved in the fatal crash late Tuesday in Reno. Ermun Ervin Peter was booked Wednesday morning for two counts DUI causing death, two counts failure to render aid, failure to maintain a traffic lane and failure to report.

Being a former USFS employee of the Carson Ranger District and the timber crew supervisor in the 1980s, im appalled at the lack of timber management going on in this district.
Not even salvage cutting is being done in the huge fire of two years ago that burned a good part of Alpine county and Markleeville areas. All that timber has been left to rot on the stem and will soon be falling creating fuels for the next burn down the road.

Drivers Beware. Throughout the year the Lake Tahoe Basin experiences fluctuations in the number of visitors and vehicle traffic. The winter ski and summer recreation seasons bring more vehicles to the Tahoe Basin, which increases the risk of bears being struck by vehicles. On June 29, 2023, at about 5:39 p.m., A Special Enforcement Team detective noticed a vehicle committing an improper stop at a red light at North Carson and West Musser. The detective conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver, identified as 36-year-old Navdip Kahira. A male and female juvenile were also in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.

Scientists sampling surface waters at Washoe Lake State Park have identified a potential Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) along the shoreline of the lake.
