Something very old is something really new at the Nevada State Museum. To celebrate Archeological Awareness and Historical Preservation Month in May, the Carson City museum’s Frances Humphrey lecture series hosts archaeologist Mark Giambastiani, who will share new Nevada discoveries of artifacts dating at least 10,000 years old. His presentation “Recent Rock Art and Archaeological Discoveries in Lincoln County” is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23.

Carson City sheriff's officers made a handful of misdemeanor-related arrests Tuesday, mostly warrants for condition violations and failure to appear in court.

A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested May 7, 4:45 p.m. in the 3000 block of Sherman Lane. He faces a misdemeanor charge of being in violation of bail conditions. According to the arrest report officers responded to the area because of reports that an intoxicated man was yelling in the street.

A Carson City man who fired into a crowd, hitting a Fallon man and leaving him paralyzed from the waist down, was sentenced to a total of 26 years after his victim delivered emotional testimony in district court.

This cooler, wetter weather is a bit of good news, bad news for firefighters. Of course, the moisture is great, but as we saw just this weekend, any lightning storms that pop up can easily spark fires in our area.

Firefighters say they welcome the moisture because it does reduce the risk of wildfire but admit it just buys them some time before it gets hot and dry.

The Carson City CrossFit Future Athlete Sport Conditioning Summer Camp will run June 10 through July 12.

This will be for all youth athletes playing football, soccer, basketball, baseball, track, cross country, tennis, or want to get in to the Sport of Fitness, CrossFit.

The program will encompass strength training, sport conditioning, kettlebells, tire flips, plyometrics, and sprints. This program is designed for the young athlete to not only get stronger but get better conditioning in during the summer months.
