The annual Sharks Beer and Bräts fundraiser for Nevada Sharks Fastpitch Softball will be held at the Fuji Park Exhibition Hall in Carson City on May 17 beginning at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $20 with all proceeds going to support the program by keeping the cost down for the families by funding tournament fees, uniforms, equipment and our indoor training facility.

AB 312 which is now currently before the Senate Government Affairs Commission, and was submitted by Republican Assemblyman and former member of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, Pete Livermore, strikes at the very heart of our democracy.

It is a despicable piece of legislation motivated more by vindictiveness on his part towards the citizens of Carson City, coupled in part by his ineffectiveness as a state legislator.

“I’m Nicolas Cage and I’m an American filmmaker,” said the actor to the Senate Committee on Revenue and Economic Development. This morning, Cage and Las Vegas mayor Carolyn Goodman testified in favor of a movie tax incentive bill, promising to use his connections in the industry to help spark a filmmaking boom in Nevada if the measure becomes law.

UPDATE: The Nevada Highway Patrol reports no explosives were found inside the DMV in Carson City after a disgruntled man left two packages inside on Tuesday afternoon.

A bomb squad from Douglas County did a sweep of the DMV and the Department of Public Safety building after it was evacuated, the Nevada HIghway Patrol reports. A 65-year-old Silver City man, Charles Leigh Self, was arrested on unrelated charges following the incident. The man was originally reported to be from Silver Springs.

Carson City Library will present comedian and author Darryl Littleton, Wednesday, May 22, at 6:00 p.m. in the library auditorium. Littleton is the author of “Black Comedians and Black Comedy” and the executive producer of Robert Townsend’s documentary, “Why We Laugh.”

A 34-year-old Exeter, Calif., man was booked into Carson City Jail May 6 and faces a felony charge of being in violation of condition of his parole from prison.

Matthew Michael Ramos was jailed without bail, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report. The State of Nevada warrant for his arrest was issued Sept. 13, 2012 for failure to comply with conditions laid out when he was granted parole on March 19, 2012.

A Carson City job fair held in February resulted in 43 people being hired, the city's workforce case manager reports.

"We felt it was a huge success with the 36 employers attending and 619 job seekers; this is more than 14 percent of the job seekers who became employed as a direct result of the job fair," said Lynn Ellis, WorkForce Program Case Manager for Carson City Health and Human Services.

Ellis gleaned the statistics after taking a survey of employers six week after the Feb. 22 job fair held at the Carson City Senior Center.
