A late amendment to a bill mandating universal background checks for gun purchases in Nevada has given the effort renewed life in the state Legislature.

The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada turns 25 this year and it is throwing a party Saturday, June 15, to celebrate.

The festivities will begin with Mayor Robert Crowell signing a proclamation designating the day as “The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada Day” this will be followed by the unveiling of a new logo.
There will be lots of fun and games inside and out with entrance to the museum free of charge for the day. The celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Museum, 813 N. Carson Street in Carson City.

The U.S. casino industry captured $37.3 billion in gaming revenues in 2012, a 4.8 percent increase from 2011.

That growth rate is largest since the recession swept through the industry in 2008, according to an annual report released today by the American Gaming Association.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies made several arrests this weekend, several for alcohol, drugs and battery-related offenses. Two of the arrests were were for felony DUI in which the drivers had two prior DUI convictions.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Rural Housing Authority staff, along with its Board of Commissioners, are mourning the death of Commission member, Tom Cook. Cook died at Carson Tahoe Hospital, while surrounded by loving family, on April 25, 2013.

The 21st Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will take place this year on the Saturday before Mother's Day, May 11th. This is the largest one day food drive in the nation, and since it's start has collected over 1.2 billion pounds of food.

All the food collected goes to local organizations that help feed the hungry in our community. This year Advocates to End Domestic Violence, F.I.S.H., and the Ron Wood Center will be participating.

Scattered showers and afternoon thunderstorms are possible for the Carson City region over the next several days as unsettled weather moves through the area.

The best chance of thunderstorms in the Carson City area will come Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. In the Sierra, snow showers are possible at the higher elevations Monday night.

Here is the Carson City road maintenance and construction report through May 12: The outside westbound lane of William Street will be closed Sunday from Carson Street to Plaza Street due to construction activity on the building adjacent to the roadway.

The northbound lane on Fairview Drive will be closed between Fifth Street and Edmonds Drive due to roadway maintenance. Detours will be marked.

There will be road work on Long Street between Roop Street and Molly Drive. No delays are expected.
