The Carson City Raiders Booster Club's annual fundraiser and auction is this coming Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carson Lanes Eleventh Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Avenue.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for 20 homebound seniors in the community (our list of seniors and their modest wish lists are supplied to us by the Meals on Wheels program).

Each year our members shop, wrap, deliver and visit each home bound senior on our list. It's always a heart-warming experience to help make these seniors' holidays more merrier.

With all the deferred infrastructure maintenance in our city, you would expect key projects to receive priority funding. Not so with the relatively new sidewalk in front of city public works facilities on the south side of Butti Way between Fairview and Airport.

This sidewalk serves virtually no one in a given day, probably cost taxpayers upwards of $200,000, and diverted funds from repairing crumbling sidewalks that serve many people.

Western Nevada College offers veterans and the public the opportunity to spend a part of Veterans Day viewing a documentary film about one of the longest and deadliest battles of the Vietnam War.

“Bravo! Common Men, Uncommon Valor” will be screened at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, in Marlette Hall on the WNC Carson City campus. Admission is free.

The holiday season brings out plenty of good will, including food drives through the Pinenut District of the Nevada Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Beginning this weekend, an estimated 400 Scouters comprising Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and adult leaders of the District will distribute 16,000 flyers announcing the food drive. The flyers will be distributed to area homes between Saturday, Nov. 9 and Wednesday Nov. 13.

Restaurant inspections are made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division. This week's inspections for the week ending Oct. 31, include a convenience store, various departments of two retail grocers, the kitchen of Carson City Community Center, restaurants and fast food restaurants.

Christmas tree cutting permits available through the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Carson Ranger District will be ready for sale beginning Nov. 22 and lasting through Dec. 24 or until the 4,000 permits are sold.

Permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis for $10 each in designated cutting areas for white fir, incense cedar, Jeffrey, and lodgepole pine trees, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Carson City authorities arrested a 27-year-old transient Monday in the 1200 block of Old Clear Creek Road. David Elden Bennett faces a felony charge of violation of probation conditions.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the area of Spooner Junction after a report of a man standing in the road.

A 53-year-old man faces a felony charge of failing to register as a sex offender. Robert Allgood was arrested Monday, 1:42 p.m. in the 3300 block of Harrison Lane in Carson City.

According to the arrest report, the Carson City Sheriff's Office received information from the DMV that Allgood was a convicted sex offender out of Oregon who was currently living at the Harrison Lane address. DMV advised that the man attempted to obtain a Nevada identification card by supplying an altered Social Security card, the arrest report states.

Northern Nevada Veterans Resource Center, 99.1FM Talk Radio and Cowboy Country 102.5 FM are sponsors in the campaign that runs from Tuesday, Nov. 5 to Dec. 9 in order to get gifts to our veterans in time for Christmas.
