On Tuesday, Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada CEO Brett Zunino came before the Planning Commission regarding a Special Use Permit allowing for a daycare facility in west Carson City at 2805 Mountain St.

The property, which was previously a law firm, is zoned as Residential Office. The Boys and Girls Club is asking for a recommendation to amend Carson City zoning code to allow for a child care facility within Residential Office zoning.

The Carson City Coroner's Office has identified the woman who died in a vehicle crash that happened Saturday, Dec. 16 in the 2500 block of Airport Road as a 23-year-old Carson City resident, Raquel Centeno Arauz.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has announced the winning members and team for 2023 during the department’s annual awards event this week.

The categories for outstanding dedication and service are Volunteer of the Year, Deputy of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, Civilian of the Year, and Team of the Year. Candidate recommendations are submitted by supervision and peers alike to the Awards Committee that is made up of the winners from the previous year.

On Thursday, Carson City Supervisors will select a sculpture design for the roundabout at South Carson Street and South Stewart Street, which is intended to serve as Carson City’s downtown gateway.

Previously, a request for qualifications was released and the city received 153 submissions which were then scored by an ad-hoc panel. The three top-scoring artists have since spent time in Carson City researching the project and “gaining inspiration from the people, history and environment,” according to the agenda.
