— A proposed contract between NV Energy and the Carson City Fire Department will be discussed, which would award $6.5 million for a three-year term to provide wildland fuel mitigation around NV Energy infrastructure, as well as fire standby services and disaster response.
The contract will provide continued funding for CCFD’s five full-time wildland fire employees.
This is a slight increase from previous years in funding the program. In October 2020, the board accepted a grant of $1.8 million grant from the Nevada Division of Forestry to fund hazardous fuel reduction projects, which also provided funding for the five full-time positions.
With this contract between NV Energy and CCFD, however, the amount comes out to be around $2.16 million per year.
This has been an ongoing project, but grant funding expired May 2023 and was extended through Dec. 31, 2023 by Supervisors.
If approved by supervisors, the new contract between CCFD and NV Energy will continue through Dec. 31, 2026.
— Supervisors will select a sculpture design for the roundabout at South Carson Street and South Stewart Street, which is intended to serve as Carson City’s downtown gateway.
See our previous reporting here.
— Supervisors will discuss the purchasing of new fleet vehicles for the Carson City Landfill, including a new Ford F-550 cab and chassis for a new service truck at $95,180, a Volvo Haul Truck at $356,260, and the partial refurbishment of a Landfill Cat motor grader at $137,455.
— A grant from the Department of Justice will be discussed for the TriNet Narcotics Task Force in the amount of $133,008, as well as a discussion to pass along $40,000 in grant funds to the Douglas County TriNet task force along with an interlocal agreement. This is an annual grant.
— A number of items relating to the city’s new Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be discussed. These include the purchase and installation of a generator on site, furniture, fixture and equipment purchases, and more, all of which are at least partially funded by federal grants.
— The city is requesting authorization to submit a grant application to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in an amount not to exceed $3 million to acquire water rights at Buzzy’s Ranch. The city will be designating up to $1.8 million in matching funds from a Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act grant as the necessary 10 percent matching funds requirement.
