Last week it was revealed that the Carson City Board of Supervisors would be considering putting a question on the ballot to approve a quarter-cent sales tax to fund a downsized $28 million City Center Project, aka Nugget Project.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is meeting this morning at 8:30. You can watch the live video here, and the agenda is here. The Carson City Center Project, aka Nugget Project, will be discussed during the afternoon session beginning at 2 p.m.

University of Nevada Reno football coach Chris Ault spoke at the Carson City Chamber of Commerce monthly mixer tonight at Carson City Toyota.

Ault spoke about the school's transition from the Western Athletic Conference to the Mountain West Conference, and his outlook for the coming season.

Also in attendance were members of the UNR cheerleading squad, along with UNR mascot Alphie.

The Carson City School District announced today that Fremont Elementary, the only school in the district currently on a year-round schedule, will shift to the traditional schedule for the 2013-14 school year.

This change had been proposed in 2009, rousing anger from parents who prefer the year-round schedule. The school board decided then not to implement the change.

Liane Anderson, of Carson City, was sentenced on Tuesday to 40 to 102 months in prison following her conviction for felony Obtaining Money by False Pretenses and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies have arrested the following persons for felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

  • Garrett William Dayton Bowden, 20, a janitor from Carson City, for a gross misdemeanor statutory sexual seduction warrant in his name. Bail is set at $2,500.
  • Cynthia St. John, 38, a manager from Sparks, for third-offense DUI. St. John was also arrested for misdemeanor allegations of failure to maintain a single lane and improper turning. Bail is set at $10,000.

Sheriff Kenny Furlong has announced that he has authorized the installation of a license plate reader system (LPRS) in a patrol vehicle, to be operational this week. The LPRS system is expected to increase officer safety and productivity.

Details behind the new technology were not provided, but the LPRS is expected to be able to read license plates of vehicles in all weather conditions, day or night, at speeds of up to 140 miles per hour.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office has issued a statement regarding ATV and off-road safety in light of the ATV accident late Sunday evening.

"There are many measures you can take to stay safe when off-road driving. These include the following:

1. Always wear protective gear to include a seat belt if in a vehicle.
2. Before you leave let someone know where you are going and how long you plan to be gone.
3. Make sure you have plenty of water.
4. Take extra provisions in case you get stuck.
