Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals on felony allegations:

  • Ivan Botello, 26, a machinist from Carson City, at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Botello was arrested on a statutory sexual seduction warrant in his name after he turned himself in at the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Bail is set at $15,000.

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s jobless rate dropped below 12 percent for the first time in nearly three years in April, a state agency reported today. The statewide seasonally adjusted rate fell three-tenths of a percentage point to 11.7 percent.

Cycle Pub NV will be at the Firkin and Fox for tonight’s May 18th Bike to Work Week Party!  They will be doing two tours, one hour each, at $10 per rider.  The pub must be full (14 riders) before departure.

Gov. Brian Sandoval will speak at a decommissioning ceremony at Nevada State Prison at 11 a.m. today.

The Nevada State Prison operated for 150 years until the last inmates were moved out in January due to the state's budget constraints.

The public is invited to the event, and urged to bring cameras.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors this afternoon voted to form a committee whose job it will be to come up with the wording for a ballot question asking voters to approve of the Carson City Center Project, aka Nugget Project.

Because the previous plan for funding the project proved unworkable, the ballot question would ask voters to approve a quarter cent sales tax increase to fund it instead.

In the spirit of teamwork and goodwill, AAA continues its steadfast tradition to civic involvement by hosting on May 18 an open house designed to benefit Special Olympics in its south Carson City office.

The event, which is slated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes a silent auction, special insurance counseling, travel advice as well as ample refreshments. Proceeds from the silent auction with items ranging from a glider plane ride to a round of golf will be earmarked for the Special Olympics of Nevada.

Taste of DownTown Carson City tickets, 2,000 of them, will go on sale June 1. The popular culinary event of the summer, Taste of DownTown is held on the third Saturday in June each year and presented by Advocates To End Domestic Violence to benefit victims and their children.

The Downtown Coin Club annual coin show is this weekend at the Carson Nugget, featuring many local dealers. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Nevada State Museum and the Carson Senior Center.

The American Association of University Women, Capital Branch is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s scholarships.

Mary Longero, graduating from Carson High, plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno to study Nutritional Science, which will put her on the pre-med track.

Chyanne Corley, a senior at Dayton High, will begin her studies at Western Nevada College where she will complete an Associate Degree. She will then continue her education at the University of Portland majoring in Psychology.
