Extremely dry conditions has prompted the Bureau of Land Management Carson City District to urge cities, counties and residents to be aware of the increased chance of wildfire due to extreme dry conditions and warmer temperatures.
“The current conditions for this time of the year are dryer than what we have seen in the last 20 years," said Ken Smihula, fire management officer. “The public needs to be aware of the dry conditions and the very high risk of wildfire. We encourage everyone using public lands to be careful in regards to human-caused fires and take appropriate steps to prevent them.”

Services for legendary radio commentator Travus T. Hipp will be held this Saturday, May 26, in Silver City. Hipp died early Friday morning, May 18, at his Silver City home. He was 75, as old as the Golden Gate Bridge in his beloved San Francisco.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 26, in Silver City. Gathering, gnoshing and remembering will begin at the Silver City Community Center, 385 High Street, at 10:00 a.m. Food and refreshments will be provided. Those who wish may bring more.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

• Nicholas Charles Davis, 18, a Carson City student, at approximately 3:30 a.m. this morning. Davis was arrested for lewdness with a child under 14 and statutory sexual seduction with a child under 14 (both felony allegations) as well as the gross misdemeanor allegation of possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription and a misdemeanor allegation of possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail is set at $48,500 plus administrative fees.

May 16th was Muscle Powered’s annual Bike to Work Week cruiser ride, and this year we had record attendance. We estimated around 100 riders this year, double the previous record of about 50. Thank you nice weather!
