The Parks and Rec Commission has picked a permanent site for the 9/11 memorial in Mills Park. The memorial, featuring a piece of the World Trade Center, will be located in center of the park's Seely Loop next to the Firefighter's Memorial.

Diane Comeaux has been appointed administrator of the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services.

The Corpus Christi Catholic Community is hosting its second annual Cookie Walk on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3597 Sunridge Drive.

Sheriff Kenny Furlong was in Reno Wednesday morning taping an interview for "The Last Wild Place," a locally-produced radio show hosted by country singer Lacy J. Dalton. Furlong talked about some of the Carson City Sheriff's Department fixtures, including it's large and passionate volunteer force, and discussed holiday safety tips.

Also interviewed were two members of Occupy Carson City and a Stagecoach resident running for Nevada State Assembly.

Those interested can listen to the pre-recorded show Sunday morning at 10 a.m. on KCMY My Country, 1300 AM, 93.5 FM or 102.5 FM.

The Tahoe Fund announced today that 12 major Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts are offering two free Alpine or Nordic tickets for every purchase of a California or Nevada Lake Tahoe license plate between December 12 and April 15.

A routine registration check of a vehicle led a Carson City sheriff's deputy to arrest Bradford "Brad" Waren Stone, 30, an unemployed Dayton resident, at around 1 p.m. Tuesday, near the 2800 block of Concord Dr.

An officer ran the plates of a grey Dodge ram and discovered that it's registration was expired and that there was a warrant out for one of the registered owners. After being pulled over, Stone admitted to having a pipe used for smoking methamphetamines, and marijuana.

This weekend, beginner skiers and riders can take their first turns on the snow at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows for just $30 including a beginner lift ticket, rental equipment and lessons during the 12th Annual Learn to Ski and Board Weekend.

Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong said his deputies are continuing to follow leads in the attempted abduction of a Carson High School girl on Monday.

Furlong said citizens have called in several tips, including one very promising lead that didn't pan out.

Last Saturday evening (Dec. 3), the Ormsby Sportsmen’s Association (OSA) of Carson City held its traditional end-of-the-year banquet at the Carson Nugget and ended the 2011 year on a high note.

That trip was taken by Bob and Lorraine Scholes of Dayton and Don and Elaine Quilici of Carson City, as they traveled the length and width of Italy, plus being on the Island of Sicily and in Switzerland.
