Children and Family Counseling therapists Jeffrey Davis, MSW, LCSW and Kristopher Komarek, MSW, CSW-Intern, and will present a workshop at the Carson City Library on Monday, October 8th, at 6:00 p.m. This program is the third in the Mind-Body Connection: Mental Wellness Series. The topic of the workshop will be “Am I My Parent Parenting My Child? Is This Good or Bad?” Active participation and interactive dialogue is encouraged. Refreshments will be served.

The Carson City Greenhouse will offer tours of its premises on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. At 10:30 a.m., Greenhouse manager Ray Saliga will present a workshop on propagating herbs from cuttings. The Greenhouse is located on the Carson High School campus, 1111 North Saliman Road. To reach it, turn into the high school property from Saliman Road at Robinson Street. The public is invited to attend.

A strong ridge of high pressure will push temperatures high temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above normal on Tuesday, with records possible in several locations in Eastern California and Western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. The projected high for Tuesday in Carson City is 90 degrees. The record was 91 set in 1963.

Authorities are looking for a man, unarmed but believed dangerous, who escaped early this morning from the Virginia City Jail. Jeremy James Morales, escaped at about 1:50 this morning, according to Storey County authorities. He was being held in Storey County Jail on charges of sexual assault involving a minor.
Morales, 38, is 5' 11" tall and weighs about 220 pounds. He apparently locked a deputy inside his jail cell when the deputy was doing cell checks. He was scheduled to be sentenced to the Nevada Corrections Department today.

The local PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) chapter is again sponsoring Candidate’s Night this Thursday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at in Carson City at the Business Resource Innovation Center, 108 East Proctor Street, Carson City from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

After 150 years, the Nevada State Prison is now a ghost town. By the time Nevada became a territory in 1861 the need for a place to house those who broke the law was glaringly apparent and it fell to the first territorial legislature was to establish a state prison.
Abraham Curry, father of Carson City, owned and operated the Warm Springs Hotel on land located east of the capital city and readily provided a meeting place for the new governing body.

A Carson City family trust wishes to trade the historic Pioneer Cemetery and a 19-acre hill site south and west of Ormsby Boulevard and Kings Canyon Road. The Potter Family Trust would receive the equivalent in city land if such a land trade were to happen.
As part of the process, Carson City leaders will decide when they meet Thursday whether to appoint Stephen R. Johnson and Associates as the indendent appraiser for the potential exchange.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for Oct. 1-7. There will be lane closures on Carson Street between Musser Street and Seventh Street, Monday through Friday, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. due to maintenance.

There will be traffic control on Roop Street between Hot Springs Road and Winnie Lane and also on Northridge Drive between Roop Street and New Ridge Drive due to the construction of bicycle and pedestrian
improvements. Minor delays are possible.
