LAS VEGAS – Nevadans with a net worth of more than $1 million make up only 0.2 percent of the state’s population but account for more than 27 percent of its reported charitable contributions, according to a report from The Private Bank by Nevada State Bank.

The third in the bank’s series of monthly reports prepared in conjunction with local market research firm Applied Analysis focused on charitable giving by Nevadans with a household net worth of at least $1 million.

As I have done for many years, my last article of the current year is to present the Annual Don Q Awards for a number of different reasons.

Those reasons include such assorted things as: Outstanding, memorable, good, not so good, questionable, bad, serious, funny, dumb, head-scratching, are-you-kidding, etc.

Those annual awards are presented to all kinds of people or places or things for what has occurred throughout the year. It’s a fun way to end the year for yours truly, so without further ado, here are my 2012 winners:

Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to and investigated 18 motor vehicle crashes in northern Nevada between midnight and 10 Wednesday morning. Of the accidents, 10 of them happened in the greater Reno-Sparks area with the remaining eight taking place on highways in the Carson City, Douglas, Churchill and Lyon County areas, reports Trooper Chuck Allen.

Carson City is offering Christmas tree recycling in cooperation with Capital Sanitation/Waste Management Inc. As in previous years, trees can be placed curbside on regular collection days or taken to one of the drop-off locations listed below.

Trees will be chipped in the springtime and given to local residents to use for mulch in their yards. Last year, 36 tons of wood waste was redirected from the landfill.
