Two were arrested Sunday and face multiple felony charges including burglary after allegedly stealing a purse with a gun inside from underneath the counter of a Carson City business and then using credit cards to go on a buying spree.

Samantha Ann Henry, of Dresslerville, and David Elden Bennett of Markleeville, both 27, are being held on $105,200 bail each. The pair were discovered attempting to purchase items with one of the stolen credit cards at the Walmart store on Market Street.

Last week four of the Carson City's Sheriff Office top motor officers were invited to compete in the San Francisco Police Department Motor Officer Training Challenge held at Giants Stadium.

The SFPD Training competition attracted 52 motor officers from police, sheriff and highway patrol departments from California Oregon and Nevada. In June the Carson City Sheriff's Office hosted its own 10th annual Motor Officer Training Challenge during the Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest.

On Friday Aug. 9, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Nevada Highway Patrol, conducted a compliance checkpoint on U.S. Highway 50 near the Carson City county line.

Of the 1,741 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, no alcohol related offenses were found. A total of 13 citations were issued for various vehicle and drivers license violations.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of Aug. 12-18. Tuesday, August 13, the outside eastbound lane on Fairview Drive will be closed between Roop Street and Industrial Park Drive during the early morning hours. The lane is expected to reopen by 7 a.m.

From Thursday, August 15, and Friday, August 16, the inside lanes in both directions on William Street will be closed from just east of Rand Avenue to just west of the interchange with the Carson City Freeway.

A yearling male black bear was released early Friday evening in the mountains west of the Carson Valley, the Nevada Department of Wildlife reports.

Biologist Carl Lackey, accompanied by Karelian Bear Dog, Rooster, released the bear and applied the proven “aversive conditioning” treatment as the bear scurried toward freedom with the dog on its heels, said NDOW spokesman Chris Healy.

A 31-year-old Carson City man was critically injured early Saturday morning at Lake Tahoe after being hit by a Dodge pickup that sped away on Highway 50 and Lake Parkway in Stateline, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

This hit and run was report 3:13 a.m. The 31-year-old Carson City man was walking on the road just east of the MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa when he was hit. It is possible the man may have been struck by more than one vehicle, said Trooper Chuck Allen.

A food drive that brings federal employees together to collect food for those hungry in Carson City will be held Saturday following a successful event last weekend that netted more than 700 pounds in donations. Also underway Saturday is a clothing drive for families in need at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The “Feds Feed Families” drive will have a booth and food drop-off area at Grocery Outlet, 1831 North Carson Street this Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
