Washoe sheriff warns of fentanyl danger following two overdoses in 12 hours Sunday

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of the serious danger fentanyl poses to members of the community. Sunday, and in the span of only 12 hours, the Sheriff’s Office responded to two calls for service involving fentanyl overdose.

Christmas tree permits for Lake Tahoe Basin cutting available beginning Nov. 17

Christmas tree permits will be available in the Lake Tahoe Basin beginning Nov. 17, 2021. Forest officials were evaluating the availability of trees after the Caldor Fire but determined enough areas around the lake had trees. Some of the normal cutting areas may not be available but maps will be provided at the time of purchase.

Slaughterhouse proposal goes back to Carson City planning commission after noticing error

Carson City has acknowledged that a public noticing error was made regarding the Planning Commission's public hearing of a proposed special use permit for a meat processing and packaging facility on Highway 50 East.

This means the commission's Sept. 30 approval for the proposed Carson Valley Meats slaughterhouse no longer stands and the issue will go back to the planning commission, city officials said.

Carson City schools salute veterans with events and displays

Carson City students are recognizing and honoring military men and women this week with Veteran’s Day displays and events. Veterans from all branches of military service, as well as families of students, have been encouraged to attend or participate in events tomorrow, Wednesday and Friday. UPDATE: A storm system forecasters say will be stronger than the one over the weekend but far less so than the atmospheric river-driven one last month, will push into the Carson City region late Monday into Tuesday, bringing valley rain, Sierra snow and gusty winds, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Wind Advisory for valley areas and a Winter Weather Advisory for the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Women veterans highlighted in exhibit opening Wednesday at Carson City museum

“Through Our Eyes: The Women Veterans Experience,” opens Nov. 10 at the Nevada State Museum, Carson City. The exhibit, featuring portraits and stories of 16 veterans, will be on display through December in the museum’s concourse.
