American Red Cross Babysitting Certification

This American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course will provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants. This training will help participants develop leadership skills, develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe, understand children from ages 0 to 10, help children and infants with daily needs, help children with their behavior, and become fully certified in pediatric CPR and First Aid.

Carson City area weather: Strong thunderstorms experienced throughout region

The National Weather Service is tracking a series of strong thunderstorms throughout the region Thursday afternoon. Doppler radar shows thunderstorms developing north into Washoe County and south of US-50 and east of the Sierra and Tahoe Basin.

Carson Montessori faces issues in finding — and funding — new location

Carson City’s Montessori has been educating a portion of the capitol city’s children for over a decade. They quickly outgrew their space, and have been looking to relocate for about 13 years.

Now, an end may be in sight. According to Carson Montessori Executive Director Jessica Daniels, the school has been looking at the vacant Silver State Charter School complex on Fairview since Silver State shut its doors. After funding fell out more than once, they’re at it again, and a tentative offer of over one million dollars has been offered for the space.

My Thousand Words Book Sculptures: Trees, Ornaments and More

Did you ever want to create really cool things out of books? Once read, they sit on a shelf and start to collect dust. Why not learn what Debbie and Rachael of “My Thousand Words” book sculptures and make them into beautiful art!

This course will teach you to make some amazing holiday creations out of books, including trees and ornaments. You'll even learn how to light up your creations! In addition to the $25 registration fee, a $40 supply fee is due to the instructor at the start of the course.

Carson City schools, law enforcement prepare for worst-case emergency scenarios

Carson City schools and local law enforcement teamed up at Fuji Park Thursday to discuss action plans for worst-case scenarios to protect students, staff and visitors in the event of an emergency.

Volunteer Expo in Douglas County

The Douglas County Leadership class of 2019 is hosting the first annual Leadership Volunteer Expo to provide awareness of volunteer opportunities for children and adults in Douglas County to encourage involvement and promote local organizations in our community through an informational expo.

The expo is scheduled for Thursday, August 22, 2019, from 3:30 -7:00 PM at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in the Dining Room. This event is free and we will have raffle prizes for participants.
