Historic Sierra snowpack modifies, enhances Carson City Off-Road course

Adapting to a very snowy winter in the northern Sierra Nevada, Epic Rides announced Tuesday a modified course for the Capitol 35 and Capitol 50 events for the 2nd Annual Carson City Off-Road mountain bike festival June 16-18. The Capitol 15 will be unchanged from last year.

Caltrans crews have been working on seasonally closed mountain highways to get them open for spring and summer travelers. State Route 89 over Monitor Pass is now open as of Monday afternoon.

Carson City investigators ask for public's help locating owner of car seen at time of burglaries

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's help with information in reference to the owner and driver of the vehicle in the photo above. It is a black Honda Civic (1995-2000 model) and has been seen in the area of recent residential burglaries.

Dutch oven cooking demonstration at Mormon Station State Historic Park on Saturday, May 13

Join Park Rangers at Mormon Station State Historic Park for a Dutch oven cooking demonstration. Rangers will prepare a cast iron elk roast with sides, and samples will be served as long as the food lasts.

Participants will learn about the cooking techniques used by pioneers in the 1850s as they came through the Carson Valley on their way to California. Dutch oven cooking is a great way to bring the family together for a meal. It can be used in the backyard or out on camping trips.

Washoe Nursery opening for spring conservation plant sale

The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) Washoe State Tree Nursery in Washoe Valley opens Thursday, May 11, and will remain open through mid-October. The nursery will be open to the public from 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Thursday through Saturday.

Empire Elementary celebrates Multicultural Math Around the World Night tonight

Empire Elementary School will celebrate many different cultures Tuesday night with their Multicultural Math Around the World Night. Families will learn as they explore and take home fun activities. In addition, families will learn about the school’s math curriculum for next year and ways to support their children throughout the summer.

Sunny days, sweeping the clouds away. On my way to where the air is sweet. I can tell you where to find some fun, down on Carson Street. Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee is the hot ticket tonight. Such a beautiful day in store, they’ll probably be in the courtyard. Our rivers and reservoirs are filled to the brim: if you ever wanted to learn more about fly-fishing, this is probably a good time for it. The Carson City Fly Fishing Club meets monthly at the Carson City Airport and is a perfect choice for those who already love or are curious about the sport.

Sierra Music Society continues its fine Artists In Concert programs with “To Opera, with Love” on Saturday, May 20th at 5 pm. The concert will be at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church located at 3680 US Highway 395 South in Carson City, NV.

“To Opera, with Love” will feature the lovely soprano Irina Kasimova and baritone/tenor Chris Nelson accompanied by Bryan Chuan. The concert lasts about an hour and is a relaxing way to enjoy beautiful music in a beautiful setting. Admission is $15 General; $12 Seniors/Students/Military; and $10 Twelve and under.

Bomb threat forces evacuation at Empire school, sheriff's office determined call to be fake

A bomb threat was made to a teacher at Empire Elementary School on Monday afternoon. Classes had already been let out when the call was made from a nefarious telephone number, Carson City School District officials said.
